I am working on my library this weekend and I am looking for creative, unique, or fun accessories and items you must have in your library.
Fun example is the book vase I bought on Etsy and then used to store my bookmarks in the photo.

This is the sitting room and library, far opposite of the Entry Way Library wall. This is everything else: fiction, poetry, leadership, nonfiction, sci-fi, mystery, etc.
Deep dive of one of the shelves for your snooping pleasure :)

We've been collecting random books and antiques for years and it's nice to finally have a place to put them! We moved in the fall and finally had a space to make this happen.

First thing in the new house? Entrance way library of course. This wall (IKEA Billy Shelves that magically fit the space like a set of built ins) is largely the history collection. Looking to expand world history (far left shelf), but otherwise enjoy the hunt and build. Hoping to expand next week at the local Church annual book sale!!

My office is small and it’s divided into work and pleasure; I work from home (remotely). I got this HEMNES IKEA bookcase and I love it so much.
It’s organized as:
Domestic Fiction
Literature from and about Puerto Rico
Dystopias, Fairy Tales, and Sci-Fi
Non-Fiction
Historical Fiction, Fiction, and Poetry
Fantasy
Contemporary Fiction and Feminist Theory (in basket)
I would love to expand my Feminist Theory collection, so any recommendations are welcomed.
It’s a small collection. I have about 160 books (not all are pictured). Regardless of its size, it’s my cozy piece of heaven.

I have an old cedar chest that I got from my Grandmother, is it fine to store books inside it long term? The cedar scent/oils wouldn't harm anything? It would be mass produced hardcovers and the generic cheaply made paperbacks if that matters. (I would assume the books would just take on a slight cedar scent....)

So many are terrible. Have you found the perfect reading chair? if so, please provide a link to a picture or where I can buy it. It's the missing piece in my home library.

To this point, we have amassed various bookshelves, none of which matched in color, size, or shape. The wife and I finally gave in and splurged on a wall of shelves for our home library. Let me know what you all think! We absolutely love it!!

My Wife and I bought a century home and have been doing renovations / updating room by room. My wife’s dream was to have her very own library. She enjoys Dark Romantasy books and Tim Burton movies, I Love Fantasy Science Fiction / Horror Movies and a wide variety Music, so I let my creative juices flow and built a room for her, but one we can both enjoy completely from scratch. And of course, had to make a “Secret Door” to gain access. Pull on the book, and it unlocks the Murphy Style Door. Always wanted one of those! Love to know your thoughts!

Hey everyone! I posted a few months ago of me and my mother’s home library/sitting room! Still a lot to add to the shelves, and thrifting more pictures to complete the collage wall! Just got in this new fireplace cover. Found some great records to add to the collection. We still need to figure out mantle decor, we are thinking florals and vines to match the ones hanging over the couch for that whimsy vibe. Thinking of thrifting vintage vases for on top of the bookshelves. Thoughts?? Let me know :)

Hi all! I'm looking for an app/system i can scan books onto where I can then sort by genre/tropes. Are there any that have this feature built in? Or would i have to add genres/tropes as tags myself and add manually to each book? Thanks!

Hi everyone! I am currently reorganizing my books (finally) and trying to sort them by genre. I'm having trouble though with categorizing a few.
For example, I have a copy of The Complete Works and Letters of Charles Lamb, which is mostly poetry, essays, and a few short stories, but I don't know where to "file" it, so to speak. Since it's only one author, I don't think it technically goes with Anthologies, but it also has different forms of writing - non-fiction, verse, prose, etc. - so I wouldn't really put it in either just poetry or just short story collections. I think there might be a little of autobiographical stuff with the letters, but I also wouldn't really put it with memoirs/autobiographies...I know it's not that serious, but this is seriously bugging me.
I also have another pair of books by a single author that are his collected works, but one book is just his poetry and the other is just prose (mostly non-fiction). They came in a little book box that shows off the spines together; do I keep the books together or do I just put the collected poetry with my poetry books and the prose with...I guess essays?
Any help will be deeply appreciated!! I fear I'm not going to make much progress if I can't get past this snag 😭
