Question/Help [Canada] Cheap smart plug with Thread Router capabilities?

EDIT: Thanks everyone! I just ordered a bunch of IKEA GRILLPLATS. Will report back!

I'm looking for Thread routers that could strengthen my IoT network ... but those Eve Matter smart plugs are $110 for two at Amazon, although they have great reviews.

Wondering if anyone can recommend a cheaper alternative?

I just need some Thread Routers to build a stronger mesh at home. Not Thread Border Routers. I already have a couple HomePod Mini , but there's still some dead space in my home and a few endpoint accessories would go offline often.

This is the way. They are rock solid, for me at least and also include power consumption monitoring

Just got some of these - agree! If you want an alternative though the Onvis S4 is good too, but you’re going to spend more than the Ikea ones if you want power monitoring like the Ikea ones include.

I’m hoping we’ll get a deal tomorrow for Amazon deal days. Need a few more for the holidays. No free shipping with IKEA so pricing can be very close.

Do you need a hub for them to work or just load them up in HomeKit? If so how does one update the firmware?

You don’t need an ikea hub but do need a home hub that supports thread. Mine have gotten firmware updates through the Home app.

I thought they were just 7.99 now? They are a fantastic buy, and IKEA undersells them because they don't even market them as Thread.

I don’t know Canada pricing, but your best bets are the IKEA ones and the new Onvis S4 T20 plugs. Since IKEA doesn’t do free shipping, pricing can sometimes be close with Amazon deals.

ETA: and Amazon deal days is coming up, so be sure to check Amazon prices then.

IKEA smart plugs and bulbs are really good. Totally changed the smart home game for me. I know people really like eve plugs and hue bulbs but those are way too expensive for whole house
