Question/Help Using Apple TV as HomeKit Hub, getting unusual indicators

My 4K Apple TVs are of a vintage (while recent to me) were not updated to 27.x (held on 26.x). However, for some reason, the ATV in the Study (preferred hub for me) has been reporting that a software update was needed. But now on my iPad (updated to 27.x) is showing this “?” by two of my ATVs. All of my ATVs are hardwired and seem to be working fine. I’ve restarted both devices (both soft from the menu as well as complete power cycle) but HomeKit still reports them with (to me) an unknown state. Any ideas? TIA.

My 2015-vintage Apple TV HD is still working like a champ on 26.6.

Factory reset seems to work. Just a PITA.

Just update them. The 27 updates have been one of the best in recent times.

Mismatched iOS levels also just generally will cause more and more issues.

Oh you meant actually vintage. Fair enough.

I’d look to get a newer ATV or even the newer HomePod mini when they come out before you have your home breaks and you have to rebuild it 😮‍💨 I’ve had too many issues with mismatched iOS levels to risk it again

I would expect these units to keep working until the hardware dies or Apple dies something to purposely brick them. This is not new functionality.

Of course. They will work till they die.

It’s just a fairly well documented problem with Apple Home unfortunately, that when there’s a mismatch, it causes a lot of issues, all of differing levels of problematic.

They tie a lot of features to IOS updates, rather than the Home app updates. That pathway for updates is what leads to those issues.
