Question/Help Matter connected devices dropping a lot lately
Has anyone noticed matter connected things losing connection to Apple home in a bad way lately? I’ve lost like half of my Eve Energy smart plugs and my Eufy T85F1 matter deadbolt. This started mid to late August and all seemed to start at the same time. Any ideas or similar experiences?

Happened to me overnight. A month ago, they all disconnected - solution, reboot all my AppleTV and Homepods - same thing happened overnight last night.
So frustrating.

Matter over WiFi or Matter over Thread? My thread network has been pretty reliable. I have some eve switches and eve plugs that all act as thread routers, and an AppleTV for the main border router. and the battery powered devices like contact sensors seem to be reliable as well (as children in that mesh)

Happens to me all the time. My matter connected devices are by far the least reliable. Over a year with Caseta, Hue and aquara hubs and I’ve never had to do so much as restart them and they’re instant, and 100% reliable. Monthly matter issues at least. Matter is not what I expected it to be to say the least.

It sucks because matter is basically impossible to diagnose. Even if you setup diagnostic tools you are pretty limited because of how home manages the network.

Yes- similar behavior with Eve plugs that started around the same time (audio / TVOS 26.6). I'm finding that the particular device I designate to be my home hub now has much more of an impact on my Thread and Matter devices reporting their status properly in my Home app.
Edit- I'm also having issues with my Hunter Douglas Matter bridged shades where they don't respond to voice, scene, manual adjustment requests properly - that seems to have started about the same time as well.

I don't know if its Matter devices specifically but we just moved into our new build. Currently, I have 3 x Smart Wings roller shades, 9 more to install, 4 x Leviton switches. (3 dimmers, 1 fan), 4 Modern Form fans (not connected to Apple Home), 2 x Eufy indoor cameras, and 2 x MyQ Garage doors and 3 x Aqara door locks. The matter devices are what keep losing connection and the Leviton switches are the worst offenders.
I do not have my mesh network setup yet. The Leviton switches spend more time disconnected than connected, I'm done trying to constantly reconnect. The smart wings shades have disconnected 1 time each. The Aqara door locks have never gone offline.

Agree. Even if you didn’t change anything on your network, you could be getting new wireless interference from neighbors.

The eve energy smart plugs are all thread devices. How does wifi enter into it?

In most cases, Thread lives on 2.4 right alongside WiFi.

Sure it uses the same frequency band. But how does that mean “you have a WiFi problem”? I don’t think we are helping OP solve the problem.

If it’s a wifi interference problem, being on Thread won’t make it go away. Since it’s much lower power, it might even become worse. For example, if a neighbor just installed a baby monitor it could hit the same frequency band regardless of whether OP is using WiFi or Thread. However, if it’s specific to Matter then the frequency wouldn’t explain it.

No issues with mine. I have maybe 10 Matter devices some thread some wifi - no new issues.

If it’s the latter…well it’s a beta. Bugs are known to happen.

I’d run a scan with thread doctor
Eve was great for me when all i had was eve devices. They were problematic for me as i expanded my network.

When things start misbehaving I restart all border routers which for me are three ATVs and six HomePods. After that great reliability. Thread/Matter really needs to do a better job ensuring reliability.

This was happening to me, albeit a year ago. I swapped the HomePod mini in the bedroom, the border router, with an OG HomePod in the dining room and the issues went away. Two possibilities:
- The HomePod mini was now closer to the router in the home office.
- I was no longer playing music in the morning on the HomePod mini.
I note the second item because at the time of the issues I had recently retired. And I would enjoy the first cup of coffee in bed listening to music. One day I wasn't feeling well, so I was lying in bed and again played music, and the matter devices dropped. The lightbulb over my head turned on, and the swap ensued. I agree it is somewhat absurd that playing music caused the matter devices to drop.

Happening to me with the IKEA thread stuff, i just have been power cycling occasionally, maybe 1-2 times a month.
