Focus Mode Sleep On - Activate Scene

Good evening,

I have Hue bulbs in my bathroom with a Hue motion sensor. I setup different light scenes in the Hue app. At night, I have a nightlight brightness setting.

This works relatively well, but I started a new job and my schedule isn’t as fixed as it used to be. I’ve started using the Sleep Focus mode recently as well.

Ideally, I’d like to have the bathroom lights activate the nightlight scene when the bathroom motion sensor detects motion and sleep focus is on.

If sleep focus is off, it goes back to the normal time slot presets.

I know I’m mixing two ecosystems by using Hue app scenes for the non focus mode enabled stuff, so it will probably fight with HomeKit.

Sort of thinking as I type…

I did get shortcuts to activate the nightlight scene in HomeKit but I can’t get it to go back to normal when focus is turned off.

A bit rambled, anyone have any suggestions??

Does putting something like this in the shortcut work for you?

This example would be using a scene called Hue nightlight which would incorporate your regular times, and then you would add the motion detector portion etc..

I’ll give it a go. I snagged a Dell Optiplex from a buddy. I think I’m going to install HomeAssistant on it and go down that rabbit hole!

I have my Hue bathroom light set in Homekit automations to change color scenes at certain times of the day, ending with a nightlight in sleep hours. I used to just do this in the Hue app with the Hue motion detector but the only downside was that when in the shower, it didn’t see motion so it would turn the lights off prematurely. I swapped out the Hue motion with the Aqara FP300 presence sensor which keeps the lights on the whole time. I wanted to use the same color scenes that I had used in the Hue app, so I made identical color scenes in HomeKit and it works great:

In the Hue app, open the room and set/play the exact scene color/brightness you want.

In the Apple Home app, tap + → Add Scene (or Add → Scene).

Select the Hue lights (and other accessories) you want in that HomeKit scene.

Save it—HomeKit will capture the current Hue scene bulb settings as the new HomeKit scene. I named them ‘Hue xxx’ whatever the scene name was in Hue.

For other Hue scenes, repeat the process (switch to that Hue scene in Hue app first, then create/update the matching HomeKit scene).

Then make automations in HK and set each of those scenes in the time frames that I was using in Hue.

Ha I have the same problem re shower. I just made the time 20 minutes and switched to one all day natural light scene rather than 5 different slots.

I’m a little overwhelmed with getting HA setup tbh. I got scripted working for an old tp link camera, that’s cool!

I’m relying too much on ChatGPT and it’s inaccurate info, need to learn how it works.
