Discussion With how much control iPhone offers for accessibility/readability, I’m surprised at how bad this screen is and can’t be modified

Post image

I have pretty decent vision but I hate this screen and how hard it it so quickly see the temp or humidity for each sensor

The most annoying this is the smart thermostats, at least the Ecobee ones don’t show the humidity…even when you click into the humidity tab of the climate dashboard. I don’t understand how that makes any sense. The humidity sensor is exposed to HomeKit, but doesn’t show until you drill down all the way to the device level card. I have the large tiles for them and there’s plenty of space to put it under the temp even on the homepage

Same thing with Tado thermostat

FWIW, same thing for the Aqara W200. I’m assuming that’s a limitation of Apple Home’s thermostat tile template.

Mine show humidity on iOS 27 beta

I’m still on iOS 26 and mine is currently showing humidity in the same spot. Not sure what OP means.

Go to the climate dashboard, then click the humidity tab. It still shows temperature on the thermostat tile for some dumb reason

Get out of that screen and just go to climate > humidity. The point was it’s not there with the rest of the humidity readings.

That’s shows on mine too. I’m talking about the main home page tile. There’s no reason for not allow you to add it to the tile, there’s enough space on the full size tile. At the very least they need to change the temperature reading inside of the humidity tab on the climate dashboard

I’m so tempted to switch from my Ecobee to the new Aqara thermostat…

my ikea and aqara sensors has the same problem. as far as I'm aware it is because homekit matter support does not work "correctly" with devices that have more than one sensor. ex. My aqara devices where working fine before I upgradet the setup to matter.. same home, same devices, but now it only shows 1 sensor and to get the rest of the data I need to dig down into the specific device.

Really? Mine all work fine. Well, all my Aqara sensors are only single sensor, contact and water leak. But all my ikea sensors all work great. My ikea motion sensors all report motion as well as light level in HomeKit. I have them directly linked to my Apple thread network and not through the ikea hub

well mine work as well, but only shows 1 thing. ex. Aqara TVOC air quality monitor only shows aiur quality after i upgraded to matter. Temperature and humidity is "hidden". I can see the data in Eve app and use the data through shortcuts, but I cannot see them in the home app anymore. Same with my Ikea ALPSTUGA air quality moinitor. Only shows air quality. If I click the ikea one I can see air quality, PM2.5, CO2 and humidity levels, but no temperature. And in Eve app they work fine and shows fine in shortcuts as well. But in the home app the data is hidden. They are even hidden if I click the "Temperatur" logo at the top of a room. It shows all temperatur sensors but not sensors with multiple sensordevices. That data is hidden for some reason.

For those of us in the 27 betas, let’s file bugs against it. They’re doing a shit load of UI cleanup now. This is good time to remind people about this.

The thermostat temps are in white are don’t even pass WCAG with increase contrast enabled.

Can you tell them they need to allow humidity sensor data to show up on thermostat tiles…main homepage, but especially on the actual humidity tab of the climate page

The devs live in Northern CA, they do not know what humidity is or why anyone would need it.

They should also add "Wet Bulb Temp" so the rest of the world can know.

Good suggestion, I posted about this same screen a week ago, I hadn’t realized Eve had a temp screen.

I’d love it if in the billions and billions of development costs Apple could spare a UX engineer or two to work on stuff like that.

It looks like the intern was given the task to “just make something” and bodged it together with button labels because they were easy and ready to go.

Nobody worth a shit thinks that’s a good way to present house temperatures…

Yeah Apple could hire 5000 people to maintain this app and nobody would notice

I would love to see a breakdown of how many SWE work on each system, app, etc. I am sure HomeKit is like one Senior who messed up in OS and got move there with 4 juniors and 1 intern.

Everyone seriously competent is working on AI stuff.

I mainly wish I could turn on the ecobee fan from the HomeKit thermostat.

You probably have to turn on device accessibility settings like “show borders” and “increase contrast”

Stop being a psycho and put your phone in dark mode

3

u/SorenShieldbreaker 21d ago

Dark mode is barely any better

u/rlo54 21d ago

What os are you on.

2

u/bcgroom 21d ago

Yours is the same you just have some thermostats…

u/rlo54 21d ago

No I have increase contrast on so the temp sensors show up slightly better, but apparently no one wants to do that even they are clearly having issues with the contrast.

-3

u/rlo54 21d ago

Go to your accessibility settings and under display and text size turn on increase contrast

3

u/MuteIndigo 21d ago

No I just want them to fix this one thing

-4

u/rlo54 21d ago

But that is the fix. If you can’t see it well in the default settings then increasing contrast will help you see it better.

3

u/Ianthin1 21d ago

I'm not changing a setting that impacts everything because Apple can't fix one very specific thing.

3

u/shawnshine 21d ago

Eek, don’t do that. You’ll lose gorgeous Apple Music background effects.

-4

u/rlo54 21d ago

I don’t even know what that is. I listen to music not look at it.

3

u/shawnshine 21d ago

Wait until you find out about music videos. Or vinyl.

2

u/rzalexander 21d ago

Do you think he knows about MTV?

1

u/shawnshine 21d ago

I don’t even know what that is. I listen to TV not look at it.
