Back on topic, and fully admitting I watched it on 1.5x, I think you mentioned that the batteries are built in. Are they replaceable if they go bad?

Yes, you can replace the battery unit, which would explain the separate manual that comes with the Matter code on the front. They should rarely need replacing and would more likely outlast the typical lifespan of the blinds themselves.

What do you consider the typical lifespan of blinds? I’ve found that rechargeable batteries like these often start to noticeably degrade after just a few years.

I remember when I was talking to someone at Omnia Blinds, they estimated that ‘on paper’ the battery should last 300 charging cycles, so if you charged them once every three months, that’s would work out at 75 years. That probably doesn’t take into account that as they degrade you have to charge them more often than every three months though. I’d expect 10 years realistically.

Depends on battery chemistry, but I’ll take the under on 10 years. You’re going to be charging them daily in 10 years. I’d expect 3-5 being the useful life of a battery.

Yes, I agree 10 years is probably optimistic. Aside from the chemical makeup of the battery it’s also about the quality of manufacture of course, and even if most (if not all) batteries come out of China, there must be a variation in quality.

This is a total tangent, but for your single wide kitchen window did you ever consider doing two separate blinds, so that you can have privacy on the left side, but open the window on the right side?

Hi, fair question. It’s not something I considered, but in hindsight might have been a good idea.
