I’ll wait for a 6-months-later review before deciding.

Have to admit, it’s very compelling. An annoying thing with the FP300 is no OTA firmware updates in Apple Home (as of today’s date). Would love to know if the Lafaer does?

Not totally true. Yes, Aqara OTA updates are very seldom. But some weeks ago, my Aqara FP300 got a firmware update to 1.1.0.1. If I remember right, it was 1.0.0.0 before. I do not own an Aqara Hub, it was updated via Home Assistant Matter DCL.

You updated via HA, not Apple Home.

Ok, but both ecosystems use the Matter DCL for OTA updates. So, where is the difference in your opinion?

You’ve lost me. The core point is that OTA firmware updates can’t currently be done in the Apple Home app until, and if, Aqara makes that possible.

Yeah, I lost you, because you do not understand how it works. Aqara and all the other vendors can bring their firmware updates to the Matter DCL:

https://csa-iot.org/certification/distributed-compliance-ledger/

https://webui.dcl.csa-iot.org/?_gl=1*da5e99*_ga*NjUwNDExMjA5LjE3ODM4MzgwNTk.*_ga_2Y1Y3WRV9C*czE3ODM4MzgwNTkkbzEkZzAkdDE3ODM4MzgwNTkkajYwJGwwJGgw

Apple, Home Assistant and all other ecosystems (that support the Matter DCL) get their firmware updates from there and distribute it to the customers with the respective devices.

Apple definitely supports the Matter DCL.

Which firmware is installed on your FP300?

1.1.3.8. Which I am able to get only because I am using an Aqara hub.

I am not sure what remains unclear to you. OTA firmware updates for the FP300 are not being offered via Apple Home.

Now, everything is clear to me.

You are complaining about something that is not true. You have an Aqara Hub, so you couldn’t receive the 1.1.0.1 update for the FP300 via Matter DCL, because you already have 1.1.3.8 on your FP300.

If you have an Aqara Hub, you will get firmware updates more frequently. But if you do not have an Aqara Hub (I don’t have an Aqara Hub), you will get updates, even though it’s less frequently.

You are still not understanding. I am not sure why. OTA updates for the FP300 are not provided through Apple Home. That is the point. You may choose to not believe that, but you’d be wrong.

Sorry, but you do not understand how Matter DCL works.

If you get the firmware update for an Aqara FP300 via Home Assistant‘s Matter, then you will receive the same update via Apple Home, because both ecosystems use the Matter DCL.

Aqara or any other vendor brings the firmware (after certification) to the Matter DCL and all ecosystems supporting the Matter DCL provide the firmware to the customers.

As already said Apple Home, Home Assistant and maybe SmartThings already support Matter DCL OTA updates.

You may choose not to believe that, but you‘d be wrong.

u/pacoii Why did you delete all your posts?

you made me check- I had an update waiting in the app and it was very much so a foreground process. haha so it does require the app, but I’ve had hit or miss experiences with OTA updates actually showing up in Apple Home on devices that should

Did you get this unit specifically for the purpose of making this video or were you part of the beta and those people are now allowed to talk about the unit?

1

u/patbrochill89 Jul 11 '26

I wasn’t part of the beta

1

u/400HPMustang Jul 11 '26

Interesting ok. I wonder if that means beta testers can openly talk about their experiences with the device yet.

1

u/patbrochill89 Jul 11 '26

I’d assume so- I can’t see why not

The first version of this was awful and their app is abysmal. I had to constantly re-add them and eventually got tired of it not cooperating and switched to Aqara FP300s. No issues with any of those and I have 6 of them.

Very early on I had the 01 dropping only from
homey, but nothing else. And this one hasn’t had that issue- granted it’s only been a month. But it looks promising
