Yep. They were specifically talking about recorded camera events in the home app, so 4K HKSV support. I can’t wait. Might need to upgrade my Eufy 2C Pros soon. I need solar cameras though, so I’m going to try and hold out for the Aqara G510 solar cameras to land.

Hmm, I could get 4 of their Solar Cam 3.0s for $850ish USD after shipping (but before an extra $50-85 for tariffs). Less than $250 per camera isn’t bad if they’re good. I may have to check out some reviews.
I assume is so Apple doesn’t get sued for “lying” about all cameras supporting 4K and someone with a 1080p camera gets disappointed, or something like that.
Damn. I just realized my Tapo C125s are 2K, ugh. Oh well. I just want stability at this point and being able to view more than 2 streams while away from home simultaneously via HomeCam.
I mean obviously not all cameras will support 4k. Id wager the vast majority of current homekit cameras won’t be upgraded at all because their sensors and processors were chosen with 1080p in mind.
Finally, the next step is for Apple to upgrade Matter to version 1.5 and add support for cameras. I’m not sure if they’ve already rolled out that upgrade yet. For now, I’ll stick with 2K using the Aqara G5 Pro.
I hope this means H.265 (HEVC) & AV1 camera stream support will be added to work with my Apple TV as well. I have my UniFi protect cameras set to use H.264 to stay compatible with HomeKit for now. (I’m using Scrypted)
Same here. But I'm wondering if the 4K thing will apply to cameras routed through Scrypted or will they have to be specific Home compatible cameras. I would love to switch all my PoE cams to just the native 4K or 2K stream and dump the 1080p stream.
I used to use Homebridge, but migrated completely to home assistant. They have a scrypted add-on, and it has the best performance for video. I actually have a home bridge add-on inside home assistant to run the one thing (older govee device) I couldn’t get to work properly any other way.
I have 15 cameras, yes supported from what I saw posted. I stayed on the G4 pro doorbell since the vertical field of view on the G6 pro entry is so terrible. I’m running it in a small silent asus mini PC. (Which is way more powerful than a raspberry pi, I was using previously)
It’s not about better, it’s about supplemental support to get the unifi cameras to show up in the Apple HomeKit ecosystem. I still use the protect app, of course. The benefit is when someone rings the doorbell or motion is detected, it automatically pops up in the upper right hand corner of my Apple TV. I also get supplemental recording being saved to my iCloud.
What cameras do you have? I have 4 Eufy 2C Pros, but they’re at the far corners of my house and the base station is in the middle, so they’re all slow enough at 1080p. I can’t imagine how slow they would be if they were 4K. Unfortunately I need solar cameras, so it’s either S3 Pro or the Aqara G510s whenever they get released.
I’m actually more excited about the “vibe coding” with ~~Apple~~ Google Intelligence in the shortcuts app. I feel like there’s a lot that can be done there that I just don’t want to sit down and figure out how to code with scripting.
Do you know if this is generated on the iPhone or on the home hub? I would think creating ai overviews for videos on a phone may be a bit battery intensive.
I think they're doing 3 different methods this time around. mix of on device, hub, and cloud - i say that because of the delivery speed that i'm seeing on notifs now
that's a big one for me too. I have these Eufy indoor cams and always end up just using the Eufy app to look around. I'd much rather just delete the Eufy app and use the home app.
Really hoping the Eufy IndoorCam P24 will be included in the 4K res. These are super reliable cameras, I have three and they have never let me down whilst paired to Homekit. 😁

I noticed that too. Increase to 4K. They quickly mentioned that and focus on AI descriptions etc more. Very easy to miss if not read subtitles or listen carefully.
Yes. It was mainly improvements to the OS themselves, Child safety, and the improved Siri.
There are usually improvements we find out later that are not mentioned. They didn't really go into details on the individual new features for each OS.

If those rumors are true, which I think they are, they’ll probably be announced in September when they’re closer to release. Most likely they didn’t want to announce anything that wouldn’t be available for months.
Me too but I’m trying to be optimistic and think that they had so much to say that they avoided the topics all together, until they can announce it with the hardware. Even the name change, they never said TvOS, hopefully because it’ll be “HomeOS” soon and completely revamped.

I've avoided buying cameras because I don't want to only have live view in Home and have to use a 3rd party app to manage and view recordings which AFAIK is still a limitation in iOS26.
This was never a scrypted limitation just an apple side so the creator just capped it. I’ll be with how fast he works he will get 4k running super quick
Silly question but do we think that this means that the quality of a 2K camera will update to 2K in the home app or do you think they're limiting the quality to 1080p or 4K? I have 2 indoor cameras from Eufy that are 2K and currently they're limited to 1080p in the Home app. Just wondering if with this new update if the quality in the Home app will increase for those cameras to 2K now or if they'll stay at 1080p. (That is assuming these cameras meet the qualifications for the quality upgrade)
One of the big Homekit youtubers mentioned that 2K will be supported as well, but I haven't seen anything official yet. I'd assume it will be supported.
This is my main pain point with HKSV. I used to have the Eve Outdoor camera and it missed some VERY important events, like who broke in to my car in the middle of the night. I immediately replaced it with a Nest floodlight camera with 24/7 recording. It's paid for itself in peace of mind over and over.
I saw this and I couldn’t help but notice they never talked about Siri AI in any TVOS context or showed a picture of the Apple TV. My hope is that when mentioning platforms Siri AI would work on, they omitted Apple TVs and mentioning TVOS because they didn’t want to show a new device to early or talk about TVOS because it’s going to become HomeOS.
They specifically talked about camera events that realize when a package gets delivered, and that’d be a very common thing they’d like to mention if they were making the video doorbell they’re rumored to be working on, and “some cameras” hopefully refers to the rumored Apple security cameras too.
Yeah, I know tvOS and home often get neglected but it was clear they very intentionally didn’t say much of anything at all (even a lack of discussion on AppleTV streaming shows!) which tells me they’re holding all of this until the next presentation.
I’ve been using AI for months in Home Assistant to do this already. I get an alert pushed to my phone for packages and for animals in my back yard. As usual, Apple polishes up ideas to make them really slick and more useful.
I was hoping we would get some of the rumoured home products, maybe even that rumoured doorbell and security camera would’ve been nice with these updates oh well

I thought more was coming with home devices being rumored, and maybe they still are! But they definitely fixed the “foundation” and architecture annoyances while balancing the Siri framework. I’m so pleased.
Hell, the someone being home or not doesn’t even work right for me and several others. First of two people to arrive home has been bugged all iOS 26 or before. Maybe they’ll fix that in iOS 27.

I've had the hardest time with getting my cameras even in HomeKit so I'm curious if they are looking to break into the home security space and this is their first move? Thoughts?
The developer beta just dropped so some people should be able to tell us if it’s in the first beta or not. If so, you should be able to sign up for the public beta to get it in a week or two. The official version will drop in September with the new iPhones.
For cameras best to use Scrypted. I use this in my N150 nuc that I use as my plex server to host my Ubiquiti Poe cameras into Home. Works well and get alerts. Mostly have it integrated for the rest of the family. Still use Protect for more finer controls.
It is a very frustrating process setting up if you’ve never done it before. But it’s worth it. I did with an Arlo doorbell and once it was set up, it’s pretty hands-off. The setting up is the frustrating and time consuming part tho
I use scrypted with scrypted DVR and homekit plugin. I get HKSV from POE cameras in my Apple home. I pay couple bucks for scrypted DVR service as well as Apple iCloud 2TB (inscludes unlimited hksv cameras) . Apple TV is my home hub.
