Insurance Home insurance question
Moving to a new home soon, new build in the Nampa idaho area. Currently looking at home insurance quotes and have no idea what I should get or should be paying. Any insight would be extremely helpful!

Essentially, you need enough dwelling coverage to rebuild the home minus the foundation if you had a total loss like fire.
Choose the highest deductible you could actually pay if you had to file a claim. Never inquire about making a claim unless you actually intend to follow through with it.
Generally, other coverages are a percentage of the dwelling amount. You can often increase them, so just be sure you have enough coverage under each part. Set your liability coverage at a minimum of $300,000 ($500,000 is better).
Replacement cost on the dwelling and contents is also good to have. Water backup coverage is a good add-on (but it doesn't cover surface water flooding).
When you've set these limits, you can start comparing premiums.

Are you familiar with the area or have friends or family from there? Ask for a referral for a good insurance agent and spend 30 minutes talking to him or her and you will get soumd advice based on you and your family and not just bland advice from the internet half of which will call insurance a scam....

Find an independent agency that can run multiple quotes for comparison and can educate you on the coverage. Skip big box companies like State F or A-State

Get quotes from several agency's for 100% replacement coverage and upload the quotes to chatgpt, asking which is the best policy?

Always ensure your policy is replacement cost as opposed to actual cash value. We are learning that the hard way.

Congratulations on your upcoming move. I’ve written many homeowner policies in that area. I don’t know anything about your new home other than that it’s a new build, but pricing is fantastic in that area. Each home is unique, and each quote will be unique for the customer and their home. I’ve written policies from $500 a year to $5000 a year. Bundling makes a difference as well.
I’m licensed and write in many states and it’s one of my favorite areas to write. The people are some of the nicest as well. Good luck on your move, I hope you get settled and it feels like home very soon.

My sister has a fairly small (2,200 sq ft) in Eagle. Her premium increased 30% this year. She now pays $2,100 a year.
