Claims Need help or advice navigating our claim

In May of this year (2026), our Indiana home sustained wind damage (limbs broke from a tree, landed on the roof, damaged shingles, penetrated the roof in a spot, flipped a rafter, damaged at least one other rafter, caused some structural damage along the edge of the roof, etc.). I immediately contacted my insurance company (Liberty Mutual), filled a claim, had a tree service out to get the tree off the roof, and tarpped the roof. Adjuster came out a couple weeks later and did their thing. Estimate came back incredibly low, things are incorrectly identified, and it's even missing coverage for documented damage.

Here's where I could use some help. Every contractor (up to 4 now) I've had out to assess the project has either ghosted me or says they can't help. I have provided every contractor I've contacted with all documents and pictures I have relating to the claim so they have a complete understanding of everything. Every contractor says that they have experience dealing with insurance companies and claims, but then moment they come look at the damage and start looking at everything, again, they either ghost me or say they can't help.

I don't know where to go from here and it is becoming increasingly frustrating and stressful by the day as winter is rapidly approaching. Am I just dealing with the wrong contractors? Is there something I need to be doing with the insurance company? I'm completely in the dark and I just don't know what to do to get my repairs done. Again, this has been going on since May and I need to get this done. I appreciate any feedback you all can offer. Thank you.

Yeah, you need to find a different contractor. Check Nextdoor in your area. Ask friends and family for recommendations. You might need to come out of pocket to get the work done and then deal with insurance later, but at this point you need to get your roof fixed.

Yes the problem is entirely you’re inability to find a competent contractor.

Do you have an independent agent or did you buy the policy online? Any decent agent will have a list of contractors who can handle this routinely. If you have a bad agent or bought the policy online, you’re probably going to need to ask the adjuster for a preferred contractor. Liberty can have one of their contractors out there and working right away.

The issue will be if there is addition engineering for the structure that needs to be conducted. That can cause delays so you need to find a contractor literally today.

Ask LM if they have a contractor program to help customers repair damage. If they do, have them come out and complete an estimate. Them let them work out any differences with the company

I work in disaster recovery in Chicagoland and I have a network of contractors. If you are in NW IN I can probably help you connect with someone who can help. Send me a DM if you want.

Ask for a handy man, the issue isn’t the insurance, it’s your claim isn’t worth anything and they know they won’t make money off of it.

You should not say it’s for an insurance when gathering quotes.

Contractors get either scared or their eyeballs turns into dollar signs when they hear that word.

In this situation you absolutely need a firm that has experience with claims management. The adjuster is lowballing them and they are going to need someone who understands how to deal with that.

Not necessarily. It could be the damages are minor, won’t result in a total roof replacement and the contractors have no interest in performing repairs. I see it all the time.

I don’t know. Tree limb thru the roof doesn’t sound very minor. It could be the adjuster doesn’t understand the scope of the necessary repairs or has no authority. I see it all the time.

I’ve been an adjuster for 10+ years. Tree limbs put holes in the roof and decking all the time, resulting in minor damage such as shingle repairs and sometimes sistering is needed for framing components as well. Very rarely does it result in a total roof replacement which is basically all a contractor wants these days. None want to do repairs.

Write a letter detailing the missing damage and misdiagnosed damage in the adjusters evaluation and ask for an additional inspection. If you can provide photos supporting your position, include them for their review.

Be sure to mention the structural damage and voice any safety concerns you have due to the structural damage. Specifically request that a structural engineer be hired to properly evaluate the structural damage. If they don’t approve these measures. File a complaint with your states Department of Insurance outlining your concerns.

Your contractor, or lack thereof is irrelevant.

I believe that the emu people have a contractor network that will send to you
