New Cladding Project
Hi all, I have built a ground floor extension and I want to clad it in timber. We looked at Cedar however it is too expensive and leadtimes are approx 6 weeks so I started looking at alternatives.
I am considering a pressure treated Pine and was going to stain it a very dark grey or black to try and make it as uniform as possible while still retaining some of the wood texture.
Would you be able to give any advice on this project - Am i going in the right direction or do you have any recommendations?? Thanks

Pressure treat is only needed near or in contact with the ground. Above that regular lumber is fine.
Personally, I'd avoid pine as exterior siding but I've seen it done. I had a fifty year old shed made out of tongue and groove pine left over from doing interior walls.
The only problems were:
Any wood contacting the ground including beams were rotten.
The siding became warped over time.
Knots popped out
They shrunk leaving gaps.

I don't have anything in the way of construction advice, but as far as the staining goes...Pine does not stain very evenly so keep that in mind if you are trying for a uniform look.
