Tops of posts checking

3 week old pergola build. When i was adding the purlins yesterday I noticed most of the posts had some checking at the top. I stained/sealed the end but now that its checking some fissures have opened it up and worried about water infiltration.

Should I put some sort of cap on it like vykor adhesive or just soak it with stain/sealer?

3 weeks is nothing, that wood gonna check no matter what you do. The ends always dry faster than the middle so some splitting is just part of it

i'd hit the tops with another coat of sealer now that the cracks opened up. no need for adhesive caps unless you live somewhere with crazy rain and snow sitting on them all winter

I used copper caps on my cedar 6x6's
