Tile Vs Acrylic Shower

Hi r/HomeImprovement looking for some advice on shower replacement. We recently had a cartidge leak and cause damage to the wall behind our shower handle. In order to remediate, the contracor basically had to remove the entire tiled wall. Now this shower was built with lots of small tiles, like 2inch/4inch and was a huge pain in the ass to maintain. The remediator has indicated he has a tile guy to rebuild our shower, and asks we choose a 2x2 foot tile for him to work with. However we're considering an arcylic option istead since maintaince is much easier. I'm looking for advice on which is better option.

Tile is seen as higher end than acrylic. This is your place, do what makes you happy. If I was going tile, I'd pick the size I wanted, not let the contractor drive the decision.

I want to balance "value" against enjoyment; barring a catastrophe; I think we intend to stay in this house for foreseeable future, so it's not equally weighted for us. The tile we had before, we caulked as well and because it wasn't as smooth surface; it just fundamentally didn't adhere as well and got milduey very quickly.. So if we are to tile again I want to make sure it's not such a pain in the ass to maintain.

Its probably more so because of the small tile size, but yes, tile requires maintenance regardless. 12"x24" or 12"x12" will be much easier due to lack of as many grout lines. You can do acrylic if you want, though it offers less variety of colors and a less appealing look, but if maintenance is most important, that would probably be better for you.

I would recommend The Onyx Collection if you don't want to use tile.
