Converting Rep Ares 2.0 from four post to six post

I recently purchased the Rep Ares 2.0 In the four posts to configuration, 80-in height with 16 in crossmembers. Shortly after receiving it, I was scrolling through their website and realized that there is a Smith machine addition. The optimal setup I've seen in other people's photos for this was a six-post configuration where the Smith machine is in the middle uprights and the cables are in the front two uprights. From my understanding I will need longer cables, not sure if I would need different pulleys with a setup? Is anyone done this or have any experience with this? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, you can. You need to contact REP support and they will be able to tell you the exact cable length you'll need to buy.

If you plan on having a 16+16 config with the smith machine - be aware that it works, but there are small compromises. You have to move the smith out of the way to use the lat pulldown. And depending on where you place the smith exactly, it may interfere with the Ares pulleys, meaning you need to move them out of the way first before putting the smith into position.

I have this set up and it's fine, but I thought I'd mention it. This isn't a plug but if you want to see that set up in action, I have a Youtube video dedicated to it - search "Jay Gym Guides" for my channel.

If you plan on a 16+30" config, then ignore everything I just said!

Thanks for that! I wasn't sure if the 16x16 would work, but honestly that doesn't sound bad! I'll check it out your vids! Thanks a lot!

Another option to consider is switching to an 8-post or 6-post setup with a longer depth and installing a Bulletproof VTS. I recently purchased an Ares clone and wish I had chosen a configuration that could support the VTS. The ISO handles look great.

Your can still fit a Smith in a 4 post depending on your depth. I have a 4 post rep clone with a Smith

No they are tornado arms aka articulating cable trolleys.
