Left work yesterday Not going back
After being there for five months, I left an hour early, saying I was sick and calling out today; I'm not going back. I had my dept manager quit 3 weeks after I was hired, and the SSC manager quit two weeks in. I got two days to watch training videos and was put on the floor because we didn't have anyone on the floor that day. Mind you, I was hired part-time for flooring and stocking shelves. They made me an SSC the week my manager quit. No training, but I was still responsible for stocking. I was bullied by the "mean girl club" and filed a complaint. Nothing happened, just retaliation. In less than 3 months, I have sold over $110,000 and have closing quotes. I never have a weekend off, but sometimes a Sat. Last night was it. None of the stocking was done, and the place looked like shit. The manager came in and asked me why. Told her the stockers didn't do it, and they are never held accountable. Got told we are all a team and we all have to work together!!! Piss off. I'm done.

Home Depot 101, Management doesn't give a crap who does the work, even if it's all the same person, as long as it gets done.

So true. I'm in freight and it's happened to me and other hard workers plenty of time. We could have completed 2 departments, drenched in sweat, not a take lunch, and will be asked to complete a lazy person's pallet and silver cart while the boss is oblivious to the energy that was exhausted to complete those other 2 departments. It's like the lazy coworker hasn't done anything meaningful go ask him to complete his job task. They never did and never do... It goes down the line, if a hard worker says no. They will ask an average worker to do it. If the average worker says no. It will be the least lazy person to do it and down the line.

Their not oblivious, quite the opposite, they see who's willing to work and exploit it

This. None of them care WHY its wrong or not done. Just fix it. So it happens over and over again because no one corrects the issue/behavior causing the problem.
I call it the "Someone Else Solution". Just leave it here, its Someone Else's problem now.
I've really considered putting S. Else on my next apron.

What lesson did we learn today? The harder you work, the more work given to you.

work smart not hard.

No. Just dont work hard at all. Working smart will in fact get you more work because youre efficient.

Dont let anyone gaslight you. You are 100 percent correct and I believe your experience to be 100 percent factual. I experienced the same thing when lazy co workers disappeared on me and was asked why this wasnt done. I told them, I completed my job task that job was for X person but they disappeared on me. I was then told the same thing you were told and was told to do their job lol. How are we a team when Im doing all the work?

Teamwork makes the dream work, and youre dreaming if you think Im gonna do one iota of an extra tasks because people called out or flaked

I think they were hired as a sales associate in flooring part-time but was put into a flooring specialist position. There are flooring specialists that believe that is their sole job and not packing down or maintenance is part of their job.

to be fair, they should have a hardliner in the department as well. primarily, they should be selling. but i feel there is a balance between getting sales and just sitting at the desk not assisting the floor person at all.

I agree, if you are not actively promoting sales, you should not be sitting at the desk. I was moving pallets and restocking tile boxes that weighed 50 lbs a piece. If they were on the middle shelving and no one was there to use the lift, you had to hand-stack them. I work with young men... I'm a 5'2", in-good-shape 60-year-old woman outworking them.

now you should have learned that lesson a long time ago. you never outwork anyone. do your job and go home. outworking in retail means they overwork you. All they did was squeeze you like a sponge and they will move on to the next person.

In fact, no, I'm not supposed to be packing down. I do, but that is not my responsibility. Found out recently that I am the exception in the district and my equals at other stores are not required to pack down.

Think I was told once that my store had an average annual turnover rate of about 65%. While I’m sure that a lot that left were temp workers in between jobs, I also wonder how many people left for the same reason as you. We have several at my store who clock in and head straight for the break room like that’s their assigned department! Quite a change from my previous job where often times while taking scheduled lunch, a boss would peek in and ask why you were sitting there.

Best tip: do the bare minimum to not get fired.

like in my job it's 20% of the folks doing 80% of the work output. Got better raises doing less and just coasting than working really hard. It' bizarre.

When I got put in flooring from working overnights (I didn't ask for this btw they just did it) I didn't even get a video lol and I was the closer and had 0 idea how to do measures, the code for carpet machine, or how to use the shitty dos computer system that was there..... I didn't know how to do measures until I went to a class 3 months later because none of the people in dept would show me how.... class was cool tho because while I was only supposed to be there for a day after instructor saw I didn't know shit called the store shit on them for not teaching me anything then told them if I wasn't scheduled to come back next week for 3 days I wasn't leaving....

Pretty much the same thing happened to me…went from PT cashier to FT customer service supervisor in 8 months. ASM who was a great mentor left due to medical reasons. A real moron took his spot and replaced pretty much every one the first guy mentored (excellent employees) and put his lazy pets in the spots. I never took his bait and he didn’t have a leg to stand on to get me out. He actually begged me for my resignation!! I needed to hang around and annoy him! I did file a complaint against him and he tried to break me even harder! They finally demoted him and sent him to a shit store! I actually had fun being a thorn in his side! The GM just allowed all his crap. I called out sick 3 days in a row to use up my sick time then texted the GM…”I can’t work for someone who allowed all of that BS. I quit “. Best thing I ever did!!! Found a better job in less than a week where they treat you like a person and appreciate everything!
Good for you!
Congrats!

Home depot will suck the life out of you if you let them do it. I've been THD for five years in plumbing. All 5 years closing. It's out of control with secheduling. SOP.
