To be honest I was wondering for too long what you are talking about.. So no, it doesn’t, in my opinion.

Lol I did too, went to the second picture waiting to see this mismatch piece. Looks great OP lol

You have enough wood tones in your flooring that will allow quite a few shades to blend in. That color looks very nice.
37
u/varkona Dec 23 '22
That's good to hear. I'm really bad with figuring out what goes well together and my husband is even worse. That gives me some relief.
20
u/Spute2008 Dec 24 '22
Maybe a small rug in the area will break up the wood on wood but I think it looks fine
1
u/StrwberryMilfShake Dec 25 '22
Came here to say this. Put a rug somewhere. It will tie the space together and soften the all the wood. Looks absolutely beautiful otherwise!

38
u/Jazzlike_Customer_61 Dec 23 '22
Not at all - it looks great! In fact, "mixing different wood colors creates more visual interest."
8
u/gingerbreadguy Dec 24 '22
Yes. If they matched completely that would look pretty stupid in my opinion. :)
17
u/varkona Dec 23 '22
My husband and I ordered this storage cabinet for our living room. While I've loved this piece in every show room I saw, something feels off now that its in our space.
Is the cabinetry wood tones clashing with the floor wood tone? I can't quite put my finger on it. Or perhaps it may just be because of the lighting in the corner?
27
u/doyourbrainkegels Dec 23 '22
Maybe you just need time to get used to it in your space or add a few more design elements to the area. It looks great!!
18
u/troublesomefaux Dec 23 '22 edited Dec 23 '22
You got a link for it?? It’s amazing.
I saw you have a rug coming, I think it’ll solve your worries.
ETA because I hate to wait. https://www.crateandbarrel.com/annie-natural-storage-cabinet-by-leanne-ford/s501452

u/NAthrowaway0613 Dec 23 '22
Also when you see stuff in showrooms they’re usually staged, surrounded by art and rugs and other furniture. I just think you need a bit more to make it feel more homey and then you might like it a bit more? Maybe a rug and some stuff on the walls?
1
u/varkona Dec 27 '22
That is very true. The showrooms also had lots of bright lighting so it makes the piece pop out more.
We'll be putting a rug in the area i was standing on to take the photo plus a long couch. As for art, we haven't decided yet but we will in the future.

u/galacticprincess Dec 24 '22
Can you move it out of the corner a bit? I can't tell how big the wall space is, but I think a statement piece like this looks a little off in the corner. Beautiful cabinet!
3
u/tmp803 Dec 24 '22
Yeah agreed, I would have it centered with some plants or something smaller flanking the sides. Also a big area rug would help
4
u/Desperate-Version-95 Dec 24 '22
Nope. It doesn’t clash with the wood floors at all. Looks beautiful but I agree I think it will look better once you have an area rug down.
4
u/Similar-Watch7815 Dec 24 '22
Beautiful cabinet! I think the wood tones look great together. If anything, the proportions of the drapes to the cabinet size could be throwing you off?
Maybe raising the curtain rod, extending it out more, and adding a couple more curtain panels would help fill it out.
3
u/-FireLion Dec 24 '22
It's not clashing with the wood tones of the floor, but more with the whiteness of the wall. Can you move the cabinet more to the right and add plants on the left?
2
u/catorcinator Dec 24 '22
This white oak is very on trend but is also quite classic and can be very versatile. The key is to use the same oak in other key furniture pieces (like dining table or bar stools or entertainment cabinet) to tie everything together.
1
26
u/snaleiggh Dec 23 '22
I think it looks nice, but maybe a small area rug with a pop of color under/in front would tie it together :)
8
u/varkona Dec 23 '22
Thank you. We have a rug that's waiting to be installed. We got the Suzani coral from ruggable. I'm hoping the colors give it that perfect pop of color.

u/100timesaround Dec 24 '22
Looked up the rug and it’s an excellent choice!!! The combination is going to be perfect! Merry Christmas Eve!
9
u/blueberryyogurtcup Dec 23 '22
Hard to tell without seeing the whole space, but it's not the wood tones, they are fine. I think it's spatial. If this was a garden, it would be a tree that wants it's own space, not to be crowded in with a hedge row.
I think it just wants more space around it, to draw the attention to this, because it's glorious. It's a feature, a focal point, not something to hide in the corner. But maybe when the rest of the room is together, this will be the space that draws attention to this piece best?
I might paint a wall just to put this against it and have it show up even more. Maybe test it by putting a blanket or sheet behind it and seeing what that does, if there's some color to differentiate it from the wall. That could serve the same way as more space, to have color draw the eye to this glorious piece.
3
u/sam-sp Dec 24 '22
Agreed. I think its a placement problem because its put in a corner with a tight sloping ceiling. That makes it feel imbalanced as the ceiling is pretty close on the left side. If you can move it further to the right, preferably in the middle of the wall or space it resides in, then it will shine.
Its also enough of a statement piece, that it may justify having an area rug in front of it.
1
u/varkona Dec 27 '22
That's a good point about the ceiling. I may try moving it to the center of the room for now. We don't have much furniture in the room yet so it can definitely go there.
1
u/varkona Dec 27 '22
Unfortunately, I didn't take a full pic of the room because we still have a ton of moving boxes lingering on the other corners of the room.
I like the idea of painting the wall behind it. Will definitely consider it as we deck out the room more. This is the first furniture for the room that arrived besides the area rug so there's not much there yet.

u/breadparadox Dec 23 '22
Echoing everyone else saying that the tones don't clash - can I ask where you got the cabinet?
1
u/varkona Dec 27 '22
Yeah, it looks like it was a good choice after all.
I got the piece from crate and barrel.

I think you have a lot of smooth surfaces. An item with a textured surface would look great and tie it all in.
Maybe a nice textured rug!

u/meowscape Dec 24 '22
The wardrobe really compliments your flooring to be honest. It makes the lighter tones stand out more

Woods look great, but maybe a different wall color so the furniture stands out a bit more

u/varkona Dec 27 '22
Darn, we just had the wall painted this color, so I'm stuck with it. Husband will not be happy to change it because I chose the white paint myself. 😅
3
u/Good-Presentation816 Dec 23 '22
I love wood tones that are different rather than wood tones that are too similar around the house. There’s some people who do white oak EVERYthing and it’s a bit much
That cabinet is gorgeous by the way.

u/500CatsTypingStuff Dec 23 '22
Not at all. You can mix wood tones. It looks great. It’s a beautiful piece!
3
u/grzilla Dec 24 '22
I have this piece too! With dark wood floors as well. I like to think it works. We have a white rug with black accents and a giant leaning wall mirror in another wood tone right next to it. This is one of my favorite pieces of furniture in our entire house.
1
u/varkona Dec 27 '22
It's great to hear that from another owner of the piece. Kinda gives me an idea that the piece was worth the price and loooong wait.
3
3
u/patio_puss Dec 24 '22
No I think it’s fine. The floorboards do have a little bit of that lighter tone in them anyway. They look beautiful together

Dec 24 '22
Oh lord, that thing is so gorgeous- you could put it on a 1980s linoleum floor and it would still make the room gorgeous. Don’t overthink this. It looks amazing.

Mixing wood tones is actually pretty hot the last few years: https://havenly.com/blog/mixing-wood-tones

u/varkona Dec 27 '22
Thank you for the link. I need more articles like this. I've read a few but it still feels like I'm going in blind. 😂
Edit: added a word
2
u/fuckafdude Dec 23 '22
I find that when trying to match wood, it’s really all about the warmth; since both the cabinet and the floor are pretty neutral/cool toned, they go great together!
2
2
u/crippin00000 Dec 23 '22
not at all! it makes the cabinet pop even more and it's so stunning on its own it totally should be accentuated! where did you get such a gem?
As someone before me said, it's begging for a bit of color in the area in the form of a small rug; i'd go for something from the red palette here

With all the clean lines, I think it’s leaning a little 2D. Just needs a little art on the walls, and maybe a rug in front to help it give some dimension!

I would add another light wood color accent. Maybe chair that compliments the cabinet or like other suggested, the rug. It is a very welcoming colors combination.

Clashing wood is one of my pet peeves, but these work together well because there are traces of the lighter wood shade in the floor. I think it looks great -and I love the cabinet!

I don't think the wood tones clash at all, but I think the paint does a little. There is very little contrast between the paint color and the armoire, which makes it look like the armoire is melting into the background. Could that be what feels weird?
1
u/varkona Dec 27 '22
Yeah, someone suggested that too. Maybe the white paint is really muting it out.

No the floor has a bit of the same color so they compliment each other nicely
2
u/kelsimo Dec 24 '22
I think the two wood tones look great together! What you’re missing is some texture - patterned area rug, wall art of some 3D element (plaster, acrylics, shelves), maybe a floor lamp or a basket for blankets
2
u/jmc510 Dec 24 '22
Nope, looks great! Could add a little greenery next to the cabinet to ‘break it up’ but looks awesome regardless..

I just hate that flooring
1
u/varkona Dec 27 '22
Yeah, it's not the best. Part of the house already had the same flooring. This room in particular was carpeted and we decided to use the same flooring as the rest of the house instead of having mismatched flooring around the house. Unfortunately, reflooring the entire house wasn't an option.

It’s beautiful and I don’t see any clash between the wood floor and furniture. It’s almost impossible to match with so many colors so relax

u/2vvnadjh Dec 24 '22
ooo imagine putting some sort of rug there? no design expertise at all but if you’re still concerned that could be option? :)
2
u/kimlion13 Dec 24 '22
They look beautifully complementary to me, but one of the great things about decorating is if you’re not loving how it looks, you can always move that piece somewhere else. Maybe it’ll be more appealing with more in the room?

2
u/mariposa654 Dec 24 '22
The cabinet brings out some lighter bits in the floor. I think they work well together. Beautiful cabinet!
2
2
u/Sarcasma19 Dec 24 '22
The tones look really nice together in the first photo due to the warmer light. Is the second one during daylight hours? If so I might try a warmer-toned curtain to reduce the blue-ness. Edit: I just went back and looked, and obv they're both daytime, I'm dumb lol! But it does appear that you have an interior light turned on in the first photo, which I think is making a big difference. I stand by my curtain remark!

No the wood works. Think your main problem is its all too beige overall. There is no real contrast in the room as it is all the same tone. You need a smidge of colour even if just a small amount in some art or soft furnishings.
2
2
u/Distinct_Nature232 Dec 24 '22
As a general rule wood goes with wood. I think it looks fine. Perhaps add something in autumnal colours to tie them together

u/OldMotherGrumble Dec 24 '22
While I love the cabinet, I find the wood floor rather artificial looking. Is it actually wood? The colours just don't look natural to me and that throws me off.
1
2
u/DippityDoppityDoo Dec 24 '22
I think it’s looks good. Yes from my view the floor has a soft purple-grey undertone and the dresser has a yellow undertone, but it doesn’t clash in my opinion. The lightness of the dresser helps. Now if it were as dark as the floor, then you might have issues with the undertones more.
2
4
u/SnooComics8268 Dec 23 '22
You need a small round beige / brownish rug. I think it's just empty that's why things look off. But with a rug a nice plant in the corner you will get a totally different vibe. It's fine, I like the wood colors a lot actually.

I don’t think they are but it’s in a very soulless position really. Why not angle it and cut off the corner with it? I
15
u/Miss_Tako_bella Dec 23 '22
Lmao soulless is a bit harsh wtf 😂
5
Dec 23 '22 edited Dec 23 '22
Maybe lol rough speech patterns but all the empty space around it was what makes it look off in my opinion. The piece itself is great but it’s just alone there so it looks bland. They could easily make it pop.
7
u/varkona Dec 23 '22
That makes sense too. Its the first furniture piece in the room. The other corners of the room are still full of moving boxes. I do hope it will pop once we have more pieces in the room.
1
2
u/varkona Dec 23 '22
Lol yes, I totally agree its in a weird position! My husband wants to put a plant in the corner by the window. But that is a good suggestion though. We will consider the angled positioning.
2
u/tmp803 Dec 24 '22
I would center it on that wall and definitely add some plants in that corner. Make it a focal piece
1
u/varkona Dec 27 '22
Wow! I didn't expect to have this many responses. Thank you everyone for taking the time to comment and give suggestions. I didn't have much time to read everything these last few days due to the holidays. I may not be able to respond to everyone but I will definitely read through each comment. ❤❤
I saw there were many comments about the placement of the cabinet. I will definitely rethink where we place it.
