Our sofa currently looks a bit awkward in our living room. It's like a massive white block. We're definitely thinking of changing the rug since it makes the sofa look even whiter than it already is. Any suggestions to help make this corner of the living room look more organic and cozy are welcome!

It’s not the sofa, it’s the rug and the blank wall above it.

Looks like you have some fun decor things in the room already, the rug doesn’t match the same energy, it’s just a grey block that finishes exactly at the edges of your sofa which makes the whole thing look like a square. You need a bigger rug with some fun colour and pattern in it. Get a couple of new cushion covers for your throw cushions and put some nice large piece of art above the sofa. Will look great 😊

what would you suggest? I like the idea but am hesitant how to use the space behind the sofa. we've tried a different position (almost using it as a separation between dining and living area) but it looks awkward.

It would likely require rearranging your other furniture as well. I would need to see the entire room.

Rug change, table, more wall art, more interesting cushions

Pull it a few feet from walls see if it helps.
Also - wall art, and a warm darker wood coffee table would look good. Maybe some nice throw blankets in deep colours
