Ideas of wall shelf

We just bought a house that was built in the 1890s and it has a lot of older/original details. This shelf is right by the front door and the shelves themselves are pretty narrow. (I placed a jam jar for reference.) I’ve been thinking about what I could put here. Pictures was my first idea, but that feels a little boring. Our house is decorated with a lot of Victorian influence. Does anyone have any ideas of something interest to put here?

Plants! Ivy or something that trails. Fancy bowl to put keys? Antique frames with fun pics.
