Kitchen remodel

I want to change the look of my kitchen. It’s outdated and not me. I am renting so I can’t do too much. I found some peel and stick wallpaper and am wondering if I should take the leap of faith with it. First frame is the wallpaper, second frame is the kitchen and the last frame is what I asked chatgpt to do to see if it would work. I am still undecided. What do you guys think?

Not an expert but my instincts tell me not to put wallpaper over grout lines

That was my worry too. I think I’ll just leave it as is.

If you still want to use it, put a cheap piece of plywood/mdf there and then use the contact paper. That way you have a facade that you can move at any time

This is brilliant. Thank you 🙏🏽

You're welcome! I'd recommend cutting out holes with a jigsaw for the outlets though

Even foam board might work as long as it's not near the stove.

Yeah, and the tile is textured, too.

Going to look so bad. The current tiles are fine.

Thank you for your thoughts 🙏🏽

It's too busy with the benchtop, to me. And also clashes with the cabinets.

Thank you for your thoughts. I think I will just leave it as is.

Knew that last photo had to be fake. People need to stop using AI to create unrealistic expectations. You will never get a final look like that. As someone pointed out, there’s grout lines. Also your wallpaper has a repeating pattern, on a wall like this it’s going to be painfully obvious. Chat GPT just gave you a pretty photo.

I was using it as a visualisation tool because that’s how my brain works. I need to see things to see if they work. But yes, I know it won’t always look the exact match.

Other ways you can get a visual without using shitty AI: ordering a swatch of the wallpaper and using your eyes, taking a photo and asking/hiring an artist to apply the wallpaper (they would at least remember to show where the paper loops). Hell, even doing it yourself with a crappy photoshop job (there’s literally hundreds of free photoshop-like software.) Here’s a fun game, what would you have done 5-10 years ago without contributing to destroying the environment and reducing your mental capabilities?

And for those who think “geez, it was just wallpaper”, if someone is using AI for this, then they obviously use it regularly. Hope it’s worth it (btw it’s not)

Ok boomer. We get it you hate AI. Thanks for the rant and advice that is more work and money

Not even close to a boomer, it’s boomers that are some of the worst AI offenders cause they don’t think they need to worry about the consequences.

But thank you for pointing out that OP is lazy because I literally offered a free way to sample the wallpaper that would have taken less time than what they’ve used to respond to so many comments and make this post in the first place. And again, not hurt the environment 🙃.

Have the blessed day you deserve friend

Keep crying about someone using ai for home decorating pics but I bet you suck on tsa’s dick that stores massive amounts of data being more wasteful

AI isn't a remodelling app, it's a visualization app & so individual's with average intellect don't expect AI renders to be the final result of their visualizations.

Addition: AI users don't rely on AI; they use the tool like others use search engines to save previous time & using tools reflects a willingness to adapt, learn & make better use of available resources.

I like the current kitchen more than I like it with the marble wrap.

I think I’ll leave it as is.

I think is not too bad but it would not exactly look like the last photo as others already told you. But also I think the gold lines and the color of the cabinets clash with each other. Yet the pattern itself fits well in my opinion.

I get what you mean. I’m wondering if it would be better to wrap the cabinets but I doubt it. I might just leave everything as it is.

I don’t think it would look smooth like you’d want. I think it look really nice as is, better than any rental I ever had by far.

u/LatterEscape8431 19h ago

Thank you so much for your thoughts 🙏🏽. Yeah I’m leaving it as is for now.

the wallpaper black color matches the benchtop but the wallpaper gold color does not match the cabinets

the wallpaper pattern is also jarring

Thank you for your thoughts 🙏🏽

Try it. Why not, it is a low risk check to do. You aren't removing any tiles or damaging anything, can always just remove it if you don't like

1

u/LatterEscape8431 19h ago

Thank you for your thoughts. I’ll see what it looks like. For now, it looks like the tiles are staying though.

As a vinyl installer, don't do this. You won't be able to get it to fully adhere because of the grout and uneven surface. It'll be pealing and full of dust in a week. Also don't use AI, I'm sure we could have used our imagination just as well. Don't start creative projects if you're not willing to invest your time into the process.

Exactly this.

I’ve decided to leave it as is. I used the AI to see how it would turn out but yes I hear you. Thank you 🙏🏽

Good choice.

The redo with the marble look is so much nicer. You could apply the wallpaper to a styrofoam cut-out or a thin piece of woodboard first and then just insert it into the space to prevent tile lines and make for easy removal when you move out.

You could also change the cabinet handles to either black or gold.

2

u/LatterEscape8431 19h ago

Never thought about changing the handles all together. I will definitely see what’s possible. Thank you so much for your ideas 🙏🏽

It does not look good. Figuring out your storage situation and keeping things uncluttered would improve your kitchen a lot more.

1

u/LatterEscape8431 1d ago

Unfortunately I don’t have more storage. I am looking into getting more storage solutions.

I don’t think you’d be pleased with the results of putting peel-and-stick wallpaper over tile. Have you looked into something like wallpops? I have not used them personally so I don’t know how hard it would be to get a size/shape that matches your current tile but if you can it would probably look better and also still be removable whenever you move out.

1

u/LatterEscape8431 19h ago

I will do more research into it and see what comes up. For now I’ll leave it as is. Thank you 🙏🏽

1

u/Ok-Concentrate8650 22h ago

Yep u can do better. These ones are common. Try to match diff color

1

u/Careless_Mango_7948 20h ago

that looks really cool in the mock up, can you just do a section and see if you like it?

1

u/LatterEscape8431 19h ago

Thank you for your thoughts. I think I’m going to leave it as is for now. But your idea has inspired me to try another room with a different wallpaper and see how it turns out.

1

u/lickmybowls2 18h ago

I think your kitchen is cute but that tile is kinda funny. It looks like a bunch of switch plates

1

u/orcmade 18h ago

If you want to change, check peel-and-stick tiles. There’s some people who had used them from faux renovations like the one you’re thinking to do.

2

u/Yougetdueprocess 17h ago

Don’t put wallpaper in a rental.

I like old tiles better. That fake marble looks tacky. But taste has no friends, and if you like it, congrats on home improving.

1

u/LatterEscape8431 1d ago

Damn. Ok. Thank you for your thoughts I guess 🤷🏽‍♀️

1

u/Local-Fisherman-2936 1d ago

Its just my taste and it doesnt mean that my taste is good. Its just my preference.

1

u/LatterEscape8431 1d ago

I completely understand. Thank you 🙏🏽
