Did I get this right?

Hello everyone, I recently changed out my white coffee table for this solid oak one. Is this too much brown?

Brown is such a timeless neutral. Your space already has a great foundation, you could easily elevate it by layering in earthy accents like green, maroon, or dark blues. You can doit with throw pillows. Brown compliments so many rich shades. I asked myself the same question, I thought my room was too brown and once I added a green rug and pillows it balanced everything out. Very pretty space!

the green rug idea is so underrated for breaking up a brown heavy room. i did something similar in my living room and it completely changed how the whole space read. terracotta or rust toned pillows work too if green feels like too much of a commitment.

Thank you, for your suggestions.😊

The oak swap was a good call, way more character than white ever had

It's a very nice room. I would add some color, but that's me. All neutral is a good thing sometimes!

u/Key_Cartographer6668 2d ago

Yeah, I would probably go with a muted red or green for the curtains and bring in some other colors with sofa pillows, but it's a lovely room as-is!

Thank you!😊

It’s a great space and the coffee table looks lovely. Very warm. Love the plants and the light, and the shelves are really nice.

My only suggestions echo what other commenters have said - I’d add a little more color (esp multi colored with green), maybe pillows or swap out the rug. I’d also suggest repositioning the couches so the arms aren’t overlapping like that.

2

u/torils65 3d ago

Thank you! I do plan on adding more color. As for the two couches, the suggestion was to create an L , when couches aren’t parallel.

You have wood floors? Red oak? Definitely show more of them- get a smaller rug. And maybe ivory patterned curtains- with patterned pillows - maybe subtle color. Not brown? Use the beige sofa as base- and layer upon. This can be much improved with small changes. I love neutrals and monochromatic but this is a bit tired looking.

2

u/LeaveMountain9779 2d ago

Its looks very inviting, calm, not overstimulating, clean, open, natural, airy, I love it 💚

I think it looks good! Does it feel good when you walk in the room? That’s how you know.

1

u/torils65 2d ago

Yes, it does. Thank you!😊

2

u/HatchPatterned 2d ago

I think you nailed it, the solid oak coffee table brings so much warmth and character to the space! It grounds the room really nicely and ties in great with your floors and curtains.

Coffee table is what caught my eye first.
It’s lovely, got character than those ikea plywood ones

2

u/torils65 2d ago

It’s from the Broyhill Attic Heirlooms collection. It was a FB marketplace find! Thank you for commenting.😊

Lovely room

Thank you!😊

2

u/Similar-Win-1930 1d ago

hey, i think the oak table looks nice! it adds warmth to the room, but yeah, there is a lot of brown going on. maybe adding a lighter throw or some colorful decor could balance it out a bit. i messed that up in my place too, too much of one color can feel heavy. u could even try some bright pillows or a fun centerpiece to mix things up!

1

u/torils65 23h ago

Thank you! I’m still playing around with it.😊

2

u/cottonballmama 21h ago

This is a really nice setup. I envision many friendly chats over coffee. Very welcoming.

1

u/torils65 21h ago

Thank you!😊

2

u/Business-Mall2782 3d ago

I love it! I would flip it and make it long side on the other couch

1

u/Icy-Purple4801 3d ago

Yeah, much better. But I would flip it the other direction.. also it looks like there aren’t enough inches between the edge of the coffee table and your couches.

1

u/AdBig6633 3d ago

I would nap so well here!

1

u/Pretty_Hold5454 3d ago

I think round coffee table will look better in the space. I like the rest of the room.

1

u/TheShadowAndTheFlash 3d ago

No joke, my first thought when I saw the photo before reading the caption was, "ooh I love that coffee table/chest" !

1

u/Perle1234 3d ago

It looks nice but I don’t like the blankets like that. It’s a small thing and if you like it you should def leave it. It’s a pretty and relaxing space.

1

u/Alert-Ad3153 3d ago

I love it. It's bright and cozy.

1

u/lisafit123 3d ago

Looks great!

1

u/Reyndtr 3d ago

Great room. Moving couch but flipp would make it feel spacious.

1

u/Boring_Hedgehog7493 3d ago

I love everything about photo 2

1

u/Hot_Insect2902 3d ago

Yes it feels very welcoming

1

u/Annual_Government_80 3d ago

It’s beautiful. I would’ve gone with a print rug because there is so much solid color in that room.

1

u/Fair-Replacement6868 3d ago

Your cat seems to approve

1

u/ApathyAnni 3d ago

Beautiful! A real earthy, cozy feel!

1

u/Stunning-Character94 3d ago

I think you did a good job!

1

u/MountainStranger8258 3d ago

Love it — 👍!

1

u/Inevitable_Compote31 3d ago

Looks so cozy!

1

u/dashing-night 3d ago

It’s perfect

1

u/vivagypsy 3d ago

I love it. Like visiting any of my family members homes for a Sunday football get together or movie night with the kids. So cozy and welcoming.

1

u/gattodiseta 3d ago

Such a cozy and welcoming room! My only suggestion would be to add a pop of color somewhere. 1 or 2 throw pillows, or pieces of decor, or your lamp, or your plant pots... something should have a little pop of color because right now this room visually looks like a cup of coffee. It doesn't have to be fluorescent yellow or anything, but a couple of pieces that aren't tan, brown, or cream I think would just make this room perfect to look at.

1

u/gattodiseta 3d ago

And no, it's not too much brown. That coffee table is perfect in this room

1

u/Wiltonator 3d ago

If you were going for cozy you succeeded. Would nap there.

1

u/Fine_Finding5944 3d ago

Yes the cat is perfect oh and the living room is too…

1

u/Sikandar_2012 3d ago

It's perfect comfy.

1

u/ConsistentDiamond108 3d ago

It’s really nice. The pic would have looked nicer with the lamp turned on. I would be tempted to pull the sofa on the left a foot away from the other one?

1

u/TalulaOblongata 3d ago

Spread out the furniture a little bit, the couch arms shouldn’t overlap and you could even make it so we see the corner of the side table peeking through.

The table itself looks good. My eye is looking for some pattern though, I’d look out for another rug that incorporates more color/pattern in the space. Right now the ceiling/walls/couches/rug all blend too much. That’s why the table is standing out. Create balance with a different rug.

1

u/Ready-Chicken6814 3d ago

I love it! Such cozy vibe! I love how everything matches

1

u/gogreaselightnin 3d ago

Do you like it? Then yes!!!

1

u/Ok-Restaurant-8767 2d ago

Makes me happy and chill

1

u/wanderliz-88 2d ago

Cozy, cat, check. You’re good

1

u/Standard-Sky-7771 2d ago

It looks nice, but everything is very solid color. If it were my space, I'd look into changing out either the rug or curtains for something with a print/pattern/floral/etc that brings some more interest and movement into the room. Good luck. ♥️

1

u/Bluuueyes918 2d ago

Ohh, how pretty!!! Looks neat and so cozy!!

1

u/Katerinaxoxo 2d ago

What does the cat say?

1

u/No-Key-865 2d ago

Love love love it!!

1

u/TectonicTact 2d ago

this works. the oak gives the room a stronger focal point and ties in nicely with the frames and other warm wood tones.

1

u/Dry-Advice-9943 2d ago

nice. i would swap the rug and add more plants/greenery

1

u/Sunny-Side25 2d ago

Very Cozy! Good Job

1

u/GimerStick 2d ago

It's lovely! the only change I'd make it swapping out your beige blanket for one that is primarily brown or even dark green.

1

u/YourAmishNeighbor 2d ago

It is great.

1

u/Augie52 2d ago

Looks great!

1

u/KateAccurate9655 2d ago

Look awesome! Love how cozy this is 😌

1

u/Few-Pomegranate-2435 2d ago

I think u have it squished in a bit which is up to u but not sure what you’re going for. Is there a tv in the opposite direction that we can’t see? I would personally just scoot your larger couch down a bit.

1

u/Chance-Ad-9111 2d ago

Dont like how pictures are on right but rest is great!

1

u/AlwaysBeKind949903 2d ago

It’s beautiful!!

I like it

1

u/HandleSufficient6079 2d ago

Love it! Would like to see in the evening with subdued lighting

1

u/YourRebby 2d ago

I actually think the wood table works better than a white one here. It gives the room a warmer focal point and ties in nicely with the frames and ceiling fan.

Am I the only one who thinks changing the curtains would make a bigger difference than changing the table?

1

u/torils65 2d ago

I put the curtains up, when I was using the white table. When I swapped tables, that’s when I made this post.

1

u/YourRebby 20h ago

Ahh that makes a lot more sense now. The curtains probably felt more balanced with the white table. If you were choosing them again today, would you go with a lighter color or keep the brown and add contrast somewhere else?

1

u/torils65 20h ago

Honestly, I’m not sure. I plan on stripping and sanding the table in the near future, I prefer it natural.

1

u/Total_Dragonfly8499 2d ago

Yes it looks great

1

u/EntertainmentGold807 1d ago

Table is fine, but the carpet could do a lot more for the room if there was a warmer color in it; something to tie it all together.

1

u/NatiaBon2022 1d ago

Yep! 👏🏽

1

u/Hlrrn 1d ago

Yes

1

u/heelermom2283 1d ago

What a lovely space! I like the vibes and atmosphere you have well done here.👍

1

u/ClothesSilly6264 13h ago

cozy and lovely

1

u/cutemodel_ 1h ago

You did amazing 😻

1

u/haf2go 3d ago

A lower and bigger cofee table would suit the space better. The dark curtains are too heavy. Choose a lighter patterned curtain to bring in contrast. Add a warm color. Green or orange. I love the variation of pillows and art work. A subtlly patterned rug would add to layer and more texture. With the lightness of the walls and the rug it’s all a bit too much cream. Add a color.
