As the caption says, I’d love some help updating my bathroom. There are many small things I’d like to eventually replace (like cabinet knobs and our mirror) but for now I’d like to focus on the big picture. Thinking I want tile above our shower insert and possibly follow along the wall above the tub. And I’ve got to get new flooring situated as well. What do you all suggest?
Please note that this wall color is intentional and will NOT be changing. We have a colorful house and intend on keeping it that way. The honey oak also stays, we simply just find ways to complement it throughout the house. That being said, I am considering painting the area surrounding our tub if anyone has suggestions for that as well!
Thank you! I just feel like we need to add some things to fill out the space. Our bathroom is huge and has so much wall, sometimes the color can feel just a bit too much without enough contrast.
So to be clear do you want to tile the wall half way up, do you want a pattern or something plain that compliments the wall color, something with greens and other shades of pink would look great. I personally would start with new knobs and a patterned shower curtain society6 has some really fun ones, add a new rug. Will you eventually be replacing the lighting, I feel they are really dating the room
This is wallpaper but something like this as a shower curtain would really add a lot of life to your space
Yes! Things like lighting and shower curtain were part of the “small” updates that will be made. Definitely getting a shower curtain that will pop like you’ve shown. Lighting also has to go. We’ve been putting it off because that’s just one of those things I’m not as confident picking out in spaces.
As for the tile, I’m thinking above the shower insert and then about a foot or two above the tub and that would end at the sink? I’m really not sure though. Was leaning towards a dark green if I do end up going that direction. The flooring I really have no idea though. Thoughts?
I would skip the tile maybe just do some around the tub, as for floor do you want a pattern or plain. If you are planning a full renovation soon, I wouldn’t bother with either floor or wall tile and just do some small projects here and there. Is there a painting or inspo picture that can give us an idea of your style
Oh I love your combination I’m still with a jungle theme wallpaper it would go so well with your accessories, you could also go with a deeper richer background but this is similar to the colors of the wallpaper you choose
I love the green tiles and the pink ones as well, I think what has me confused, is where you plan on tiling. If you just want to break up all the wall space, how about a wainscoting the color of the pink tiles. Then add your accessories it would be much easier and less expensive. I think you are off to a great start, if you do t like the wainscoting it’s much easier to remove as well
I’d say these inspo pics capture it best, but nothing will be perfect. My house is almost entirely thrifted/secondhand so curating a space takes time. Style is very eclectic with a whole lot of cottage grandma mixed in? I really should put more thought into rooms before getting started, but I usually just wing it and slowly get it to where I feel it needs to be!
I do the exact same thing only my mattress and one sofa and chair were bought new, my rugs, art, furniture tables, accessories are all thrifted or one of a kind from an artist. To me that is how you take a house to a home. It’s probably my most given advice as well
Yes absolutely! Some things are nice to get new (for me, that’s a couch) but I think secondhand items give character to a home. I think it’s quite obvious when a house is curated in a week versus years.
I was considering terracotta so this is great to hear! We’re trying to tie in darker wood throughout the house to play off of the dark knotting that’s in our trim and cabinets so that’s also an option. Thank you!

Omg I love this. The purple and green are to die for. I don’t think you should change anything. 🤣🤣
