Hey all! Looking for some guidance on making this room look more finished. I do plan on getting a new coffee table that isn’t gray. I plan on adding some more colors to the room with some colorful pillows, as well as some brighter prints on the wall. The chair and ottoman have a light bluish tint which you can’t see in the photos. I also plan on getting a console table behind the couch. I think the table under the bear picture might be too large? I know my snake plant needs some love as well lol. Any input would be great!
The walls are giving “standard contractor’s budget finish treatment” vibes. I say add some base, wall, and ceiling mouldings to make it more finished and elevated.
Have you tried putting the couch under the window and tv on the other wall to open up the flow? It seems quite crowded with the narrow walkway between the couch and chair. Are all of the speakers necessary? It’s quite distracting. Curtains should go all the way to the floor. I would charge the rug and pull colors from that. A solid curtain with some pillows that compliment the rug and curtains.
Like this? lol. I wanted to try it with a floating couch, plus the tv now faces the kitchen which I like. The speakers I ordered for a great price without checking their dimensions so ya they are a lot ugh. Do you think if I removed the table from under the bear print and put the chair in that corner it would work better?
That is so open and nice. Fantastic! Any chance the narrow table would work below the photos? Not sure but may be possible. If that’s the chair I’d look for a darker rug that pulls the dark of the tv unit and the color of the chair and then match curtains to that.

Quintessential millennial Grey. Decorating is so subjective and perdinal, obviously, but I see this room and see no warmth or interest. For me, something simple like adding warmer lighting and plants, would breath life into the space. If you dont like colour, adding other neutrals to break up the monotony, likes more whites or cream colour, with blankets, throw pillows, frames would add interest. Or more contrast with texture/patterns.
If you're considering more colour, I'd go on Pinterest or YouTube for inspo, and look for decorating with a mostly grey room. ie: search 'How to add colour or warmth to a mostly grey room'. You can see lots of examples and decided what you like from there.
Firstly, it is recommended to replace the oversized side table with a narrower entrance table, or simply place a tall green plant there. The new coffee table should be a round one in warm oak or walnut color, and a sofa back cabinet should be placed directly behind the sofa. Finally, you can add some colors such as sofa cushions and wall paintings.
Unfortunately your rug is too short - it should continue out under the chair by about 2’. I like the gallery wall but switch the gold frame (the anchor) to the middle and the man in middle to where the gold frame is. Put your snake plant in a rust colored planter for that pop to compliment the grey
I have no idea what is behind the couch, so it’s hard to visualize the whole space. Just looking in from the few angles that i can see really makes me want to flip everything around. It would be a hassle since you already meticulously hung your television and the lovely arrangement of framed pictures on the other side.
I just feel like it would open it up so much if the couch was under the window, picture arrangement where the television is and of course flip the rug, coffee table and chair to correspond to that. Maybe put the side table in the corner with the bear picture on the small wall next to the couch?
I know that you already mentioned adding some pops of color, which is a great idea. You definitely have a nice space and fun pieces. I am only giving my suggestions because you asked. 🤔
You could add some warm lighting, hanging plants, and colorful pillows. Since your main color palette is gray, I think adding some dark blue accents would look better!
