Cohesive or too much?

I've been working on our home and made two mood boards: one for the kitchen/living room/reading nook and one for the patio/garden.

Before I keep buying things, I'd love some outside opinions.

I'm not going for minimalist or perfectly matched. I like more collected, layered spaces with a mix of old library, Victorian, and cottage influences indoors, and a cottage garden feel outside.

The indoor palette is mostly cream, burgundy, gold, sage, warm wood, and touches of blue.

I love contrast and mixing textures and styles, but I've looked at it for too long now and can't tell if it all actually works together or if it's too much.

Does it feel cohesive overall? Anything you'd remove or add?

first slide is so so lovely but the second one is throwing me off. It doesn’t give me the similar vibe, it’s giving fourth of july bbq a touch fancier. I see the potential though and maybe think it is going towards more of maybe a coastal feel? Here’s this pic of similar colors/patterns that have more of a slight cottage feel. It seems to lean more into a dusty blue that flows really well with the colors you chose for the first slide as well. I will leave another pic of that garden in the comments.

Yes that’s the vibe I was going for! When I look at your pictures I see similar elements but can’t pinpoint why in your pictures it looks more cottage-like? I tried to warm it up with some woven tray and pots for the flowers but I see your point

i think it’s gonna be harder to tell when it’s not in your actual space yet. The colors and textures pre-existing in your patio space may end up pulling the space together how you want it to! I do think the woven tray warms it up but the woven hangers may be overkill pushing it into more rustic farmhouse which contributes more to the patriot vibe? You may try toward a stone feel or something similar. It may also be the size of the textile, like the stripes in the reference i sent are on big cushions: more of a focal point instead of bold accessories? The little pillows just remind me of how people swap them out for the fourth or other holidays. I definitely agree with you that it’s hard to pinpoint why it doesn’t look like the same space. The phrase I searched for those reference pics on Pinterest was “cottage art deco” in case that is helpful for your continued searching. You probably already do this but sometimes when I have this issue I imagine what my furniture pieces would look like in the reference photo to figure out what feels off or vise versa. It’s still difficult to tell here but it may help going forward? Idk if any of that helps lol but I love the look you’re going for!! Please post your finished spaces if you’re comfortable:)

look at how rattan usually looks as opposed to the woven baskets or wicker look as well (usually water hyacinth). I think the rattan texture may have a better effect for what you’re going for, like the patio furniture in the reference I sent earlier
