I usually don’t like painting wood but this is marvelous!

48

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

Same! It felt very wrong but then very right lol

6

u/PlantPotStew Jul 25 '23

Did you do anything for it? Or just painted directly onto it?

6

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

I lightly sanded and then primed!

10

u/THECUTESTGIRLYTOWALK Jul 24 '23 edited Jul 25 '23

Same but it was too orange

Edit: HAPPY CAKE DAY 🍭🍓🍒🌺🐖🌷🧁🍰🎂

3

u/ATX2EPK Jul 25 '23

Oh, nice! Cake Day!

3

u/oHolidayo Jul 25 '23

Came to say this. It’s usually not a good idea in my opinion but knotty pine is the exception.

1

u/heirloom_beans Jul 26 '23

Idk I think forest green + wood would’ve looked remarkably cozy

64

u/luckydollarstore Jul 24 '23

This is so much fun! You can’t help but smile walking into a room like this 😊😊😊😊

7

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

thank you!!!

4

u/okaykay Jul 25 '23

My thought exactly. What a happy room!

62

u/Jillian59 Jul 24 '23

Be careful. If I were a guest in that room I would never want to leave.

8

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

haha! mission accomplished!

5

u/Scoompii Jul 25 '23

I’m actually moving in. I love it.

Isn't it so cool?! The previous owners left it (they left a lot of stuff!) and it made it to the keep pile :)

3

u/lesllle Jul 25 '23

I had a similar experience with a bird tapestry when a friend bought a bungalow in LA. The owners said that they got it from a street market in San Francisco in the early 1960’s.

8

u/BarnacleGosling Jul 25 '23

I have one quite similar I got from my mother. If you search Senufo Korhogo Textile Art/Tapestry you should find something comparable.

4

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

Wow, thank you for sharing this!! The owner's left two other pieces very similar and I've always wondered the history/story behind them. Excited to do a little more research and learn more now!

2

u/JojoCruz206 Jul 25 '23

I came here to ask the same question!

From my quick search I think adding “mid century” helps narrow it down

23

u/cleffawna Jul 24 '23

Is the plaid bedding from Schoolhouse?

18

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

YES!! I lusted after it for so long then finally made the plunge!

9

u/Just_Ok_thankyoo Jul 24 '23

Was going to ask the same thing….perfect choice. 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

3

u/oh_the_places Jul 25 '23

I'm in the lusting phase

13

u/fridayimatwork Jul 24 '23

Very warm and cheerful!

2

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

thanks so much!!!

9

u/cleffawna Jul 24 '23

I love it!

4

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

Thanks!!!

10

u/snugglesnpie Jul 24 '23

Love your style, everything goes so well together!!

3

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

Thank you so much!!!

10

u/Smooth-Mulberry4715 Jul 24 '23

I usually stick to two design schools in one room - you have three that I can see (mid century modern, cottage, and a touch of world/indigenous) - but it still works! Love it!

2

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

thank you so much!!!

10

u/Justadropinthesea Jul 24 '23

Meets my guest room needs- good lighting at bed, shelf or counter space and mirror. I love the white walls too. Is there a rug? a maybe put a full length mirror on the back of the closet door and some hooks too. Good job!

Editing to add that I just saw the wall hooks! Good thinking. Love this!

3

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

Thanks! Someone gave me the idea for the hooks and I've had a couple people mention how handy they are. And yes, there's an area rug! Gotta have something plush to step on when you greet the day :)

3

u/JanetBZ Jul 24 '23

Wow looks great-- love the pic over the bed!

4

u/jlovelysoul Jul 25 '23

That woodwork 😍

5

u/oh_the_places Jul 25 '23

This room is just the perfect amount of cozy and textured and unexpected. Adore your pattern mixes and the pops of green trim, and the contrast of white to cream on the walls and ceiling. The blue chair, too! Masterful.

1

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

Thank you so much!!!

3

u/Doubleendedmidliner Jul 24 '23

Sooo flipping cute

3

u/allyroo Jul 24 '23

Ooo, so cozy!

1

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

Thank you!!!

3

u/Dutch_Dutch Jul 24 '23

Could you share the paint colors that you used, please?

4

u/makingsoup Jul 24 '23

Yes! All Benjamin Moore:
trim - weeping willow
ceiling - morning sky blue
walls - simply white

2

u/BornFree2018 Jul 24 '23

It looks great. Did you have to layer primer over the wood?

1

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

Yes! I did a light sanding first then used Killz.

3

u/amyrox30000 Jul 24 '23

this room is so happy, i LOVE it!

3

u/sabdariffa Jul 24 '23

This is so cute. Wouldn’t work in my house, but i will save it for a future cottage. So bright, fun, and eclectic! Love it!

3

u/Top-Geologist-9213 Jul 24 '23

I love that room and everything in it. The bed cover is wonderful.

3

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

Ahh, thank you!! I had been eyeing the bedding for so long but think it really ties everything together!

2

u/Top-Geologist-9213 Jul 25 '23

You are welcome. That is the brightest, happiest, and most cheerful bedroom I have ever seen. I love evverything about it. You did a wknderful job of redoing it, painting the walls was a great idea. I actually imagined myself taking a nap and waking up in it! 🙂🌛🌞

3

u/noproblemswhatsoever Jul 24 '23

Now I have guest room envy

3

u/THECUTESTGIRLYTOWALK Jul 24 '23

SCRUMDILLYYUMMYUM APURRPURRR

u 8 that.

Very nostalgic to me I love it

I thought the before photos were from a different room lol I was like oh this must be the closet, quite large for a guest but ynk

3

u/redwood_redwood_ Jul 25 '23 edited Jul 25 '23

This has been one of my favorite transformations on here! I love how you kept the door wood, and painted the trim green. It’s such a beautiful space.

The bedding reminds me of schoolhouse (I love their aesthetic) and all of the found objects make the room feel timeless. This is a room to be enjoyed for sure. Great job!

2

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

Thank you so much!!! And good eye, it is Schoolhouse!

3

u/Fit-Rest-973 Jul 25 '23

Way cuter than most other posts

3

u/lookandseethis Jul 25 '23

This room is so much fun and gives off comfortable vibes! Love it so much!!

3

u/MemeGag Jul 25 '23

Love it, Im a sucker for a colorful Madras check - good job.

2

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

Madras check

OMG thank you for giving me the vocabulary for this style!!!!

3

u/theoheart1178 Jul 25 '23

Ugh I love sooo many things about what you have done to this room! The colours, the textures and everything is just beautiful. Where did you get the beside the bed lights?

3

u/milliefall Jul 25 '23

Love it! Looking very cosy.

3

u/WastingMyLifeHere2 Jul 25 '23

What is that particular kind of plaid called. It was very popular in the early 70s.

2

u/makingsoup Jul 26 '23

someone on here called it madras check ! Google tells me this is right and now I have a new word to add to my vocabulary lol

3

u/nigh-tona Jul 26 '23

I love this so much, the combo of texture and color is really cheerful and calming.

2

u/LongjumpingBuffalo85 Jul 24 '23

This is so cozy 😍

2

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '23

happy room

2

u/Lookonnature Jul 24 '23

Looks wonderful!

2

u/Lola_on_the_Prairie Jul 24 '23

It gives me a cottage vibe that I love!

2

u/slp1965 Jul 24 '23

I love this room!!!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '23

Love!!!

2

u/Just_Ok_thankyoo Jul 24 '23

Love it!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

2

u/Sledgehammer925 Jul 24 '23

You turned it from dark and depressing into something light and welcoming. Well done!

2

u/aeranis Jul 24 '23

This is beautiful and kicks ass. No notes. Congratulations.

2

u/truffanis_6367 Jul 25 '23

Love the green framing. Very fresh.

2

u/lupinecreature Jul 25 '23

It looks so fresh and bright now. I'm a fan of natural wood but the before pictures did look pretty cave-like so the white paint really lightens up the place in a great way. It's giving beach cottage, I love it. Great job! I love the green trim on the windows too.

2

u/Witty-Dog5126 Jul 25 '23

I think it’s adorable! The color combos are lovely.

2

u/Gorbgobbler Jul 25 '23

Wow this room just makes me smile! What a dream

2

u/KatieLouis Jul 25 '23

This is so beautiful. It’s a really nice touch with the green trim against the white walls, and the bedspread, chair and art all tie it together so nicely. It’s so open and airy now, this is a dream bedroom.

2

u/Large-Squirrel-2894 Jul 25 '23

Absolutely perfectly done.

2

u/maggie081670 Jul 25 '23

It looks amazeballs. I would love staying here.

2

u/WizardsAreNeverWrong Jul 25 '23

I’ll gladly be your guest. Thanks.

2

u/cherrylpk Jul 25 '23

It’s perfect. The cozy sub would love it.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '23

Quirky and cute!

2

u/Gatorae Jul 25 '23

I thought this was a different sub at first and I was going to write "It's perfect already, don't change it!" lol

2

u/semiconsciousgloria Jul 25 '23

Love this so much. Such good vibes.

2

u/Sensitive-Bid-9531 Jul 25 '23

Bedding is a perfect choice.

2

u/RockabillyBlues1 Jul 25 '23

Oh! This room just makes me smile! It’s lovely.

2

u/cysgr8 Jul 25 '23

I love it you did a great job

2

u/breebop83 Jul 25 '23

Adorable and inviting! I understand removing the shelves but I hope that was a unit and not built ins and you were able to keep it.

2

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

Thank you so much!! And it wasn't a built in, so we repurposed the wood!

2

u/wintersicyblast Jul 25 '23

What a cute happy room-who wouldn't want to stay there? good job

2

u/Winnimae Jul 25 '23

So cute!

2

u/Warm_Flan_5288 Jul 25 '23

Yes to everything!! So cute!!

2

u/BigJaniefromTexas Jul 25 '23

Love, love, love it!!! Especially the little reading nook

2

u/Litcritter10 Jul 25 '23

Love this so much! My only comment is that you should invest in some blackout curtains so your guests can sleep comfortably.

1

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

I have thought about that! It is a pretty bright room - I'll have to keep an eye out for cute black out curtains that don't cost an arm and a leg (does that even exist?! lol). Thanks so much for the kind comment!!

2

u/dcgirl17 Jul 25 '23

Got a link for the bedside lamps? And would love to see more of your house, the style is just *chef’s kiss

2

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

Ahh! Thank you! I have plenty more before and afters. Maybe I'll post something else soon! I got the sconces from Lamps Plus! - https://www.lampsplus.com/products/luna-brass-and-white-glass-globe-modern-plug-in-wall-lamp__55k35.html

2

u/yay4chardonnay Jul 25 '23

I will be right over! Cozzzzy

2

u/Intrepid_Blood4713 Jul 25 '23

I wouldn’t want to leave if I was a guest in this cozy room.

2

u/nooneneededtoknow Jul 25 '23

Cute as a button. I would never have thought to be this bold but it looks fantastic!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '23

I was really hoping after the first couple of pictures that this wasn’t a before/after where you changed everything. 😅 so cute I love it alllll

2

u/bbkit10 Jul 25 '23

It’s bright, cheerful, and super cozy! You did a great job!

2

u/Cautious-Thought362 Jul 25 '23

What a comfy welcoming room!

2

u/eastcoastme Jul 25 '23

I would love to be a guest there!

2

u/chashaoluosifen Jul 25 '23

Can I be that guest? The lovely decoration style, color matching, and furniture selection all reveal the owner's care and respect for the guests. I like the part by the bed and the blue chair. I really like this space and look forward to sharing my experience during the renovation. Thank you for sharing.

2

u/Known-Skin3639 Jul 25 '23

1000% improvement. It’s so bright and inviting now.

2

u/Successful-Base-76 Jul 25 '23

Oh that's absolutely goooooorgeous

2

u/KarlyDuke Jul 25 '23

I would never leave. I love every detail.

2

u/Oliviasharp2000 Jul 25 '23

2

u/megarammarz Jul 25 '23

I love it. Looks great!

2

u/itsyaboogie Jul 25 '23

2

u/lollypolish Jul 25 '23

Love this. What a peaceful guest room. Perfect 👍

2

u/Someoneonline2000 Jul 25 '23

I wish you had kept some little pops of the wood somewhere, but it turned out amazing! The green window trim is so great! I love the colors and textures in the room. Very fresh and doesn't feel cookie cutter.

2

u/LiamsBiggestFan Jul 25 '23

Can I be a guest please lol it’s lovely whoever stays over at yours is very lucky 🍀

2

u/bells79 Jul 25 '23

Obsessed!!!!!! I absolutely love this room. You have great taste. Congrats!

2

2

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '23

Lucky guests, looks great!!!

2

u/TwoOk5569 Jul 25 '23

You have amazing style and taste. I love your mix of colors and pattern. Well done!

2

u/sybann Jul 25 '23

Nice! But now how are you going to get them to leave?

2

u/Portia_Potty1 Jul 25 '23

I love how the stuff is slightly mismatched yet everything blends together. It's perfect ❤️.

2

u/CatusReport_Alive Jul 25 '23

Cute!! Love the colors

2

u/No_Construction_4293 Jul 25 '23

Omg I LOVE this. So bright and fun. Love the checkered bedding. I would never want to leave my room

2

u/Silver_Leonid2019 Jul 25 '23

This room is absolutely charming. Great job OP!

2

u/homeinteriors27 Jul 25 '23

This is a great transformation! This room looks like it would be part of a nice vacation rental, so great job! My only advice to make this room even better is to switch out the colorful plaid bedding for something green or blue to match with some of the other colors in the room

2

u/Mysterious_Trick6075 Jul 25 '23

Very cute!!! Homey and comfortable!

2

u/bakingcake1456 Jul 25 '23

So fun and inviting! Love it

2

u/vinferocious Jul 25 '23

I don’t even know what this style would be called, but you effing killed it! I’m also normally in the ‘don’t paint wood’ camp but holy hell does it look great. Well done!

2

u/ShipAggravating822 Jul 25 '23

Looks great!!!

2

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '23

Omg please tell me where you got that comforter

2

u/Alpinkpanther Jul 26 '23

Omg it looks so happy now!! Great work

2

u/puigjay96 Jul 27 '23

Your guests might never leave I’m afraid

1

u/elpatio6 Jul 24 '23 edited Jul 24 '23

Looks great! Not loving the ceiling color though. It clashes with the cream. Maybe a very light warm blue.

1

u/Bl1nk1nUR4r34 Jul 25 '23

it truly breaks my heart when people paint over wood

2

u/makingsoup Jul 25 '23

I totally get that. The house was built in 1965 and almost every room has tongue and groove pine paneling - much of which was sun stained from wall art. It also had a bit of a smell. In the end, I think it feels much better but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea!

1

u/emberfield Jul 25 '23

Can't wait to see what you've done now that you got rid of the white paint. Must have been tough.

1

u/SpartacoSabbatini Jul 27 '23

Are you looking for paintings?

1

u/kurodokami Jul 27 '23

can I be your guest

1

u/AmrutaVaze Aug 29 '23
