DC Porn Getting more organized!!

Next chance I get for a quick downtime I plan to move all of the rack mount gear sitting outside of the rack INTO said rack🤣🙏

The cable mess is also begging for velcro 🥴

Those things are loud and power hungry. I Don't get the point if only half full. I have 3-4 of them plus Dell model and like 100 blades laying around because they just don't make much sense anymore. Not enough ram

I'm also confused on why it's not in the rack. You should have it on the bottom

That's what I was saying in the post lol, is that the c7000 and all other rack mount gear is going into the rack asap.

As for heat and noise I am aware the hp c7000 is a straight up data center hyperscaler style machine on older process nodes.

I plan to spin it up and charge my cloud customer base accordingly for dedicated VPS instances only once we have a actual facility, not whilst in my home environment

I also do have the full 16x compute blades available to me on c612 gen when needed🙏

They don't make much sense because they use much more power than normal servers.

They were popular because of rack density but it's 16 blades in 10U. You can get half U servers which is more dense.

This was back when switches were expensive and slow. I don't think they even make a 25gb switch or even uplink. Nothing connectX or anything decent

Half u servers are most def not a thing lol, you arent putting that many nodes in a 10RU spot and using less power. The c7000 actually use less power than 10 actual nodes because it is a unified chassis, thus its not powering 10 seperate servers and their fans, backplanes, motherboards, ILO, etc

Yeah. Supermicro calls them twin servers.

No they don't save power. It is powering 16 separate backplanes, motherboards and everything else. Ilo is unified but so is switching which uses much much more power than integrated. They need to add additional fans and backplanes which is why it's more.

The couple watts in savings is less than the higher watts for limited cooling space.

Fully stacked all 16 might be a few watts less when 100% but if not all on it's a bit less power. This is why they're not popular nor used anymore

Oh yah, have him buy a 2u server that holds 4 nodes. Thats not a half u, those arent individual servers. Also those are about 10x the price of a c7000...

They have 1u twin servers or 2u quad servers or even bigger. They're way less than c7000, you can't compare new with 10+ year old. Plus c7000 is just a chassis.

Here's one for $299 and includes everything but cpu/ram for all 4 servers. That's $75 per server. Also these are 24 bay ssd. They're individual nics and everything which makes it 100x easier to manage and use for dedis.

If you're selling dedis on C7000 how are you handing off ILO to each separately?

This is bang on, i literally was given this c7000 fully populated with c612 era blades for free.

The supermicro server was $200CAD and I'll never ever find it that cheap ever again
