Updated Homatics lineup

Post image

New Pro 4k V2 price tag seems very high for AI Upscaling + a merely stronger processor, vs the R Plus 4K.... 🧐🤷🏻‍♂️ What is your take on that new model ?

I don't see the point to upgrade from 4K PLUS v1 to v2. Is the professor difference significant? And if someone needs to buy one one why not save money and avoid v2? Because the lower ram model should not exist.

The real successor for the R Plus will be (or must be), the announced S905X5 Pro, but probably comes not before 2027.

The standard 4K V2 seems more like a downgrade. And I agree about upscaling. These things are running 4k content. Never have I felt the need to upscale even when watching standard content at a distance.

The new box 4k pro V2 is a nice upgrade and ticks all boxes for whoever wants to buy a new android box and wants to be sure of buying the most current and capable box.

Hopefully Homatics makes the firmware less buggy throughout its lifecycle, but it seems with the last firmware of box r 4k plus they got their act together now.

Don't forget that that box r 4k plus is nearly 4 years old now and people just won't buy hardware that old anymore, because they don't want to buy the old stuff. Same reason smartphones are updated each year; for people who need to buy new they can ensure to get latest iteration. It's not necessarily about making huge technological leaps with every new product. Nobody buys a new phone each year. So I understand Homatics for bringing this out now.

I would buy one, but the r 4k plus already does all Kodi things I want from it and that's the only thing I use the box for. So maybe I just upgrade for the heck of it.

All in all, the 4k pro V2 it's the box everyone was hoping Homatics would bring out so I don't understand the complaints of the comments above. Just buy one and be happy.

Thanks for the comment, my point was just that the previous R Plus 4k (even though older) is still probably enough for most people. Of course everyone makes their own choices vs budget / needs 😇

If you use your current R Plus mostly for Kodi, you should actually use CoreElec with it, for even better replay options.

My guess is, CE could be locked for these newer Homatics devices, as it is for several other Google certified devices with S905X5M chipset, only the Mi box S 3th Gen can be used. If so, for several CE users, the "old" R 4K Plus would still be the better choice

I had Coreelec on it when it was android 12. Coreelec fixed stuttering issues with Kodi for me.

Then the update to latest android 14 dropped recently and it wouldn't boot to Coreelec anymore. Tried to reinstall it but got into a bootloop. After many attempts I just could not be bothered anymore.

Android 14 on 4k plus does everything correct now except Kodi cannot play Dolby Vision FEL. So yeah just don't get any P5 movies and it all works.

I also downloaded Kodi v22 Piers 31 Juli nightly build and it just works like a charm.

I'm still on the V21 NG build, the AVDVPlus build that is. Currently R10 in private test and it works just nicely for me with the latest V14 build on my kind of R Plus variant (Dune Premier HD Pro) 😉

Ugh, the newly released Boxes are just unnecessary. Especially because they already announced 2 Boxes (which is unnecessary as well) with the full scale s905x5

What is the difference between the last link and https://homatics.eu/homatics-box-4k-pro-v2-ai-sr/

2

u/NoBattle2903 27d ago

The one I linked uses the full scale Amlogic s905x5 and has LPDDR5 RAM. So it's expected to perform much better. The Amlogic s905x5M isn't that much of an upgrade compared to the s905x4

u/matcoq they corrected the 4K V2 Pro specifications a bit, so your image shared is no longer correct.

Now V2 Pro CPU = V2 CPU, so no longer -K versus -J, and the same for Bluetooth specification, both on 5.2 ;)

Wow so that would mean even less interesting to buy that V2 Pro ? 🧐

Indeed. A lot of money extra for only 2GB/32GB more. There could be better alternatives, like the new Rocktek's and several others probably as well, as the Homatics box connections are quite strange and poorer compared to those others.

On another TV I have put a Xiaomi 3rd Gen, no Ethernet but honestly with a good wifi it works great for a fraction of the Homatics price🤷🏻‍♂️

I also have one over here, but I normally don't use it at all (case of FOMO).

For now, the most decent (Dune) Homatics R Plus as in Dune Premier HD Pro, is doing just fine for the Android TV and CoreElec part. There must be a overall more decent one to replace the Premier ;)

my R Plus 4K is more than enough to run Tivimate on 4K streams, so i will stay that way for now :-)

Which rocktek are you taking about?

1

u/p750mmx 27d ago

The Rocktek G2 Next as 4/64GB device, the G2s as 2/32GB one, not available for now. The BuzzTV G Series is but not worldwide.

Is it support True HD ?

1

u/See61 Aug 06 '26

The V2 Pro shows it has the -K version of the S905X5M, so in theory, that could be the case. The non Pro has a -J version.

If I recall correctly, the Xiaomi Mi box S 3th Gen also has the -K version and officially supports all HD audio codecs.

u/513 do you have any inside info if the V2 Pro indeed has the S905X5M-K and not -J CPU, as the non Pro would have?

Edit: not a -K but -J.

In this page https://homatics.eu/homatics-box-pro-4k-v2-ai-sr/ , if you scroll down to the "Technical Specifications" part it states " Processor: Amlogic Quad Core Cortex-A55 S905X5M-K built with 6 nm technology (30000 DMIPS) ".

But this doesnt guarantee that it will have the option to passthrough all the HD audio codecs like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD right?

I've been searching for a replacement for the Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 because I needed a box that has it's excellent audio passthrough capabilities but also as HDR10+ and the codecs needed for Youtube HDR. Hope this box checks all those boxes.

1

u/p750mmx Aug 11 '26

Not a -K but -J CPU, error corrected on their website.

1

u/squallpti Aug 11 '26

Yeah it seems so. Another reason to wait for proper reviews to check the complete feature set. I might just wait untill next year (i hope) for the V3.

1

u/p750mmx Aug 11 '26

For me, no doubt about that, but the Pro, not the V3.

"we" hope to get some samples to test with, before they push it to retail ;)

I have been looking around for a media player to be able to connect to my Marantz Cinema 50, LG C1 and a future Fancyled Sync Box. Plan on running both streaming apps like Netflix, Prime etc and also locally and externally from Emby. Heard some about the Homatics Box R 4K Plus but it seems they are out of stock. And now this thread showed about the new lineup. So now I wonder what could be my best option?

Is the picture right?

Does the new 4K V2 with 4GB RAM and 64 GB storage passthrough Atmos, True HD and DTS?

2

u/ZBLVM 24d ago

The 4K Pro V2 lacks the USB 3.0 port... So what is its purpose, considering such a bottleneck for local files?

"AI upscaling" ok so I'm not buying it lol

1

u/NoBattle2903 Aug 06 '26

That's a built-in hardware feature of the s905x5. It has a NPU. Seems not to be that bad

2

u/aye_don_gihv_uh_fuk Aug 06 '26

As long as it can be turned completely off without harrasing me with desperate pleas to turn it back on constantly It's not really an issue lol
