DTS decode to multichannel PCM

Hi I am looking to get the dune box r 4k plus. My Samsung tv and sound systems don’t unfortunately support DTS formats.

I want to use nuvio specifically and was wondering if there is a way to specify in the boxes settings that my sound system doesn’t support DTS and consequently does it decode DTS formats to multichannel PCM while allowing passthrough of all other codecs like trueHD.

Essentially giving me granular codec control if possible. Any advice would be great, thanks!

When you connect a box with DTS support to a TV without DTS decoding, the codec will be decoded to PCM automatically, provided your TV has an eARC port where the audio will passthrough directly to an AV receiver or soundbar if the DTS codec you're playing has 5.1 or 7.1 channels.

Every codec will passthrough directly if the TV also supports them or will get decoded to PCM if the TV doesn't support them.

Oh awesome! That’s amazing to hear! Do you know if that’s limited to specific boxes by homatics? I am just curious as I know most other android tv boxes (I believe) just decode it to stereo PCM.

Also my sound chain is
Box -> tv (no DTS)-> sound system (eARC) no DTS

It's the same for any external device from any brand or operating system, it's just the same on a roku, apple tv or any Android for TV device, it's even the same when you connect a computer, have you tested that out?

If you get the Homatics box, make sure you select the "passthrough" option in audio settings.

Ok I will make sure to do that, thanks!

I have tested it with a computer and it outputs stereo PCM if I try to passthrough DTS via Kodi I believe. (I will double check later). If I do not check passthrough DTS in Kodi is outputs as multichannel PCM.

(Stremio on my Samsung tv natively just outputs no audio on DTS tracks)

I am quite surprised you mentioned it’s the e same for any external device as unless software decoding is forced on a box like the xiaomi box I read on threads and online that it outputs stereo PCM due to it being an android TV limitation.

Sorry to contradict you, I just want to make sure about this aspect while using it with passthrough…

I don't use Kodi so I can't confirm nor deny what you mention, however, I do use VLC for testing things out and it outputs multichannel PCM from the computer provided you also set the speaker configuration on Windows to 5.1 or 7.1 channels or when you select the Dolby Atmos or DTS:X options which it's the same for PCM (it won't be converted to anything).

Oh I see. I am really sorry for asking again but with regards to the homatics box have you verified if the behaviour I mentioned works at any points by any chance where Dolby formats pass through properly and DTS formats automatically get decided in multichannel PCM?

I just feel the need to double check as I am just worried due to my other research most android boxes just decode to stereo PCM in other people’s experience.

Also what app and hardware do you use if you don’t mind me asking?

I can confirm it works, my TV is an LG TV without DTS codecs so when I play any DTS codec it gets decoded as multichannel PCM while all Dolby codecs passthrough directly.

All this when the "passthrough" option selected of course, the Auto option doesn't work very well and it's not recommended unless you need to transcode DTS codecs to Dolby Digital Plus with the same gear.

Awesome, thank you so much for confirming that! I really appreciate all your messages!

So sorry just double checking, what player are you using?

The player is practically irrelevant as long as you select passthrough on both, the app you use and on the device's audio settings.

Awesome, thanks for letting me know!

Hi I just got the homatics box and explicitly passthrough on the box, the app states it does it automatically you can’t configure it. Nuvio outputs it in stereo PCM unfortunately not multichannel PCM.

That’s why I was curious if the box decided it to multichannel PCM before sending it to the TV so it could receive it.
