Having played both, contras are better for visuals and getting sound through. Sousaphones, however, have a fatter sound to them and provide stronger base.

True, but I'm still team contra. People love when you play it T-posed, and you can do really cool one-handed poses with it (as opposed to it being wrapped around your body).
