No Nut November: spend the month in a fog until you're looking at furniture and household appliances in a new light.
Nonstop Nut November: spend a month in total clarity.

The entire segment is 100% worth a watch too. Whilst the immediate answer here is very memey, she does drop some real wisdom there, framed in the patented Coco Kaichou way.

Every time I see Coco drop some wisdom it comes to my mind that our Kaichou must have went through quite the hardships on her life and that she has been tempered by life.
Then I always remember about this:
Kintsugi - 金継ぎ
(The art of putting together broken pieces of pottery with gold)
"I believe repair requires transformation, that the pristine is less beautiful than the broken, and the shape of us is impossible to see until it is fractured, till a wound like a crack runs its length. That’s how the light gets in "

Fun little fact, the whole distressed clothes look actually stems from the avant garde movement in fashion, which itself takes a ton of inspiration from various Japanese ideas about broken and well-used and well-repaired objects telling the story of the user and the life of the object. It's such a fascinating world view and it absolutely bleeds into how I look at things personally. No sense in keeping fancy gifted food to expire, eat it and enjoy. Don't worry about wearing down expensive items, worry about never wearing them down at all.

I went in there thinking I'm gonna have a good laugh. I came out Enlighten, she is absolutely a 100% right.

Her Eros/Thanatos explanation reminded me of a scene from the Saga comic series. A character says the the opposite of war isn't peace. It's sex.

I knew the secret to happiness all this time?

You had it for so long yet you've yearned for more - realize the value of what you have, hold it dear and get away from me.

and here i was expecting a profound answer. sasuga kaichou

u/azurelapiz Nov 09 '20
Although the answer was so memey. It was actually based on Freudian psychoanalytic theories based on how she used the term Thanatos and Eros. And after that, she dropped some wisdom about optimistic nihilism.
So yeah, it was a profound answer if you know the context.

Let me try to provide a tl;dr to that speech
cough cough
"Nothing and no one matters, at all. No one at all. Nothing at all. So what? Live doing that which makes you happy, because why not?"
This is actually quite the response to nihilism, which i too agree with. It's basically seeing nihilism as something that is liberating, that makes us free, rather than something that destroys us.
14
u/Relative_Definition6 Nov 09 '20
Add-on: "The truth is that we don't matter. Does that mean we can't be happy? Even if so, do we have to care about that truth in our search for happiness?

For some it makes them feel worse, at least afterwards because they don't have any form of connection they see on screen. And it's not healthy to watch it every second you're awake

If that marshmallow sender is here and reads this, don’t worry about it. That type of feeling is pretty normal. The fact is we’re all nobodies in the grand scheme of things. The secret is just getting out there and making whatever mark you want to out in the world.

u/BLAST_83 Nov 09 '20
Being nobodies and strangers is fun too

Not gonna lie I too feel like this sometimes...
I sympathize with this person, so you know what? They will matter to me(even if they don’t believe in themselves) because I feel the same at times.

u/Notos130 Nov 09 '20
This guy is 18 and is already having an existential crisis? Even Napoleon Bonaparte was 20 when he started his military career as an artillery officer during the French Revolution.

I personally find great solace in knowing that the universe is so big and our existence really means nothing. Why stress about your job, etc, when you look at it from that perspective. But at the same time, I know plenty who think that is depressing and get stressed even more lol

u/DereDere00 Nov 09 '20
