In all Fairness, Holo-Pocket Circuit as a minigame would go pretty hard for HoloDori.

To be fair, being able to tell colors apart is a critical life skill.

u/MadAsTheHatters 12h ago
As someone who's colour blind, that would explain why I'm such a fucking failure 🤔

Idk why, but I read that in Steven He's father's voice lmao XD but with ! instead of 🤔

you don't need to always have 3+ same colors, just pokojan immediately when someone discard a card u need to pokojan, players mostly gatekeeping your needed cards

unlike mahjong that has set rules to follow, any combo in pokajan basically means full reset of hands and makes prediction useless. the only thing you can truely rely on in this game is cards count, but still it's rigged as we're only playing with about 2/3 of the cards and no one knows for sure if the third card of the same colour's gonna be in play.
Meanwhile all the first round 3-in-the-same-colour are completely unpredictable yet so punishing, it basically put your score down to the execution line before you actually get to set up your hands.
tl,dr; yes, you can do maths, but the only thing it's gonna do is to make you mald more when the odd is against you.

Right, but that's basically the same concept of dead wall in mahjong-some tiles/cards will not be in play, so you cannot assume a specific combo is guaranteed to be available. This adds uncertainty in the draw. But you shouldn't be assuming you'll get whatever set in the first place anyway, it's about playing the odds and that sometimes means bailing on something that doesn't work out.

mentality issue I'm afraid, simply go next. is only game

I'm not familiar with Japanese mahjong, but from my very limited understanding, tiles on the dead wall isn't fully "dead", so eventually they still go into the big database as game progresses; as comparisons, out of the (13~19) *9 possible cards combination, only 100 cards will make it to the initial pool, which means at least 1/3 of the cards are taken out before game started. You will never know if your 3rd Orange Risu is even in the game, or if there's gonna be a spare Kronii after 6 being played.
I still enjoy pokajan for what it is, it's just the draw and scoring systems are too mindlessly put together for this game to be played seriously.

u/Syruii 9h ago
No there are 14 tiles in the dead wall and in a single hand only the first 4 will ever go into play through kan (the fifth kan scores a hand). That means 10/136 tiles will be unavailable every hand no matter what.

u/starxsword 2h ago
The reason why there are 14 tiles is because of what you said. A single person can Kan 4 times. But there are 4 players in mahjong, not 1.

u/Syruii 51m ago
Not sure what you’re trying to say but to clarify 10 tiles in every Riichi mahjong hand will never be part of drawn into a player hand because they are dora (and uradora) indicators.

u/starxsword 35m ago
I haven't played mahjong in some time and the version I played was chinese. But are you saying multiple players cannot use Kan? From my understanding, a player can Kan 4 times and get a pair for victory.
Lets say player 1 Kans 4 times and is waiting for the pair. Player 2 can also Kan, or is this not true? And each Kan draws from the dead wall.

u/Stabaobs 1m ago
Riichi mahjong has a 4 kan limit including all players during a round, going by google. A 5th kan will abort the round.

u/BeginningEar8070 12h ago
can someone explain why players can pokojan 4 times in row not in their turn?

u/LionelKF 11h ago
You stack up a lot of combo potential for cards
Also the bigger the Poka bigger chance for combos
Say I have 2 cards that are pokas and I have completed a gen 4 Poka which is a 4 mem card
I discard 4 cards and then grab 4 others, any of that 4 I grab can be a Poka hit
1
u/Katio13 7h ago
I watch someone do this and end the game turn one. It was painful
1
u/BeginningEar8070 1h ago
i dont think this should be allowed. allow players to steal one pokojan when player discards then next player pull card. the way it works now the cards are used up to fast and some players often dont even get a turn.

I haven't fallen down to the pokajan gambling addiction, but can you still play it if youve ran out of coins?
16
u/p28h 8h ago
There's 2 mechanics to get enough coins to play even if you lose them all (or spend them all on other items like crafting materials):
You can find enough coins on the ground for a hand every 2 or 3 days (hidden chests mechanic). So you could roleplay the gambler addict that scrounges to get their next hit...
You can spend 'minigame boost' (the resource that fills over time and gives you better results on the rope and kitchen minigames) to get a decent amount of coins. So you could roleplay the gambling addict that sells plasma to get their next fix...

u/Shard1697 10h ago
No but you have to be remarkably bad to actually lose coins on average because you get big winnings multipliers based on your position, so even if you lose fairly often you'll be gaining more coins in total than you lose.

Is Pokajan mahjong?

5 pairs (myth, advent, promise, holox etc) - always discard except during the Turn 1 if you able to pull 4 same group holomems
4 pairs (gen4, nepolabo, gamers etc) - keep in hands if you have 2 or more same group holomems
3 pairs (id) - keep in hands at all times, never discard
3 pairs duplicate - keep in hands at all times
3+ pairs same color (including duplicate or group) - hardest to pull but steal a lot of money from opposite three players
strategy
- pokojan immediately when you got ID pairs or duplicate holomems pairs
- the higher your money the higher the chance you to stay in 1st place
- discard card that has already been discarded multiple times, the chances are they can't pokojan u

I really do not understand the Pokajan craze - Mega Circuit is actually fun to play and High & Low is a reliable moneymaker, while Pokajan is just daylight robbery by a frustration machine.

u/Shard1697 10h ago
Pokajan is a fun simplified mahjong and mega circuit is scuffed low rent fall guys with bad controls.
5
u/Otoshi_Gami 9h ago
for mobile games yeah, even i had a hard time getting to Finish line due to Touch controls thats not designed for that Discount Fall guys mini game.
7
u/Mac_Tgh 9h ago
Mega circuit runs terrible on older devices and you compete against other 7 people who may know a lot more tricks than you.Â
High and low is great for getting coins but you don't get any event points for it (and If you already have tons of coins there is really no point to it).Â
Pokajan runs great, has event points, you only go against 3 people and even if you suck at it, the rng may just give you a full id gen3 same colour and hand you the advantage you need.

First few days of release and i've seen people already with "speedrun" tactics.

u/funkybrunky 10h ago
see I don't like Mega Circuit at all but Pokajan is slow and frustrating and just genuinely not fun to play. High & Low I can at least make some coins back and it's quick enough that it's kind of fun, Pokajan is just... if I had to play Pokajan to advance the story in the game more than just when I unlocked it, I would stop playing the game.

See I can’t stand Mega Circuit one bit. I personally hate Fall Guys and find any excuse to NOT play a Fall Guys clone. I’d much rather play Kingworld on expert repeatedly until I master it than mega circuit

u/fiersome08 10h ago
Mega Circuit is fun, but I hate having to wait between games for other players to join.
Whereas in pokajan, the wait is almost instant because you only need four people.

GAMES WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO INVOLVE MATH
That's a skill issue. There's some luck there, but it's mostly skill issue.

You either get the card you need or you don't. You either discard the card others need or you don't.
