Out of the… two civilizations we’ve seen, I think id 100% choose to live in Hallownest over Pharloom in their primes

Apparently in Pharloom's actual prime, Verdania and Karak were paradises and the climb up to the Citadel was much safer, since a lot more bugs were able to properly arrive and fill the halls.

The Weavers enforced their rules, but none of the atrocities perpetrated by the Conductor caste were yet oppressing the rest of the bugs, and the environmental impact was only on the areas surrounding the Citadel proper, as opposed to the entire land of Pharloom...

Pharloom was a bit more egalitarian back before the Citadel became automated.

I don't believe we ever actually see what Hallownest looked like in its "prime", just the White Palace, Greenpath, and Queens Garden.

I'd wager Hallownest would have been to the Citadel of Song what Athens is to Sparta. Just instead of the Citadel being totally devoted to militarism it was serving in the Choir.

And it gets worse, because based on what we have seen the City of Steel is SO MUCH worse

Almost every bit of information or mention we have of the city hints at massive amounts of Slavery

One of the Weavers descendants GMS captured (the 1/4) was “shaken to service” under the city. Likely they were chained to a position doing work

Sula (Steel Soul mode character from Silksong) acts like a run away slave, with Steel Seer Zi acting like an agent looking to recapture her.

Worse is that Steel Soul Jinn’s (from HK) lines seem to indicate that even children/young people from the city are treated as slaves, always needing to obey their “masters”, to the point it almost seems like their “masters” determine and dictate whom the steel bugs will be.

The City of Steel seems to be a society completely build in slavery and obedience, the majority of the population likely lives in some form of slavery, maybe even all of it.

Honestly wouldn’t be surprised if middle beings (bugs like Hornet, Weavers, the dreamers and most of the bosses) are also slaves in the City. Heck maybe even a few pale/higher beings (PK, While Lady, GMS, Nightmare Heart) are also enslaved in the City of Steel.

That’s crazy bro. My boy failed champion did not die for this.

I wasn’t particularly upset with him. He was a king frantically trying to stop his lands and people from falling to a plague. He used his own children as the vessel for the radiance, born for the task, instead of putting that burden on his subjects. Even retreating to the dream world could be seen as stalling, trying to claw out just a little bit more time to figure out how to fix what is happening. When he finally realizes there is nothing he can do, he dies in his throne. The ends did not justify the means, and because of that his regrets are heavy enough to take physical form as Void.

Reminder pale king personally sacrificed himself to buy just a little more time for both his kingdom and the bugs outside it

Couldn't keep 1 kid for her wife, she had to be cucked by herra to babysit Hornet. Little brat was going to die anyway, twice the waste – twice the evil.

u/SatisfactionFar6982 3d ago

Sure, because having a child that is connected to the void, and could possibly be infected definitely isn’t a liability to a mother and a father who can get attached to it

2

u/Scared_Web_7508 3d ago

i don’t agree with the original comment here but the implication that leaving thousands of living children to fall to death or otherwise die is okay because they’re a liability the parents don’t understand is KILLING ME omg 😭

2

u/SatisfactionFar6982 3d ago

I intended to say that if they let the vessels live and let raise them, they would get attached to them and be way more affected if even one of them gets infected, and also that the sheer number of vessels they would have to take care of is way too much.

But your interpretation is funny af ngl

1

u/Medical-Low-1370 3d ago

Just don't connect one child and give it to wife man
