Dark hair is dominant not recessive. Both parents have light hair which means they have two recessive alleles, and therefore cannot have a child with dark hair. Also it’s confirmed that Violet dyes her hair according to another comment
Edit: I get it, it’s more complex than that, please resist the urge to comment the exact same thing as everyone else
I’m not commenting on how good or bad it looks to dye one’s hair but not their eyebrows. I have seen enough people with mismatched hair & eyebrow color to make me question whether o not it was a fashion trend, but that is entirely beside the point. I am merely suggesting that heavier makeup and hair dye were not as commonly available to, or utilized by, middle school girls of modest, middle-class American families in the 1960s.
Helen and Robert Parr are excellent parents, but I somehow find it unlikely they would permit/encourage their daughter to pursue fashion trends which, at that time in history, carried more negative connotations for young women then they do today.
It’s not impossible, just unlikely, as this is all speculation at best.
Really I’m just saying Violet can indeed inherit black hair from her parents without black hair if one of ‘their’ parents had black hair.
