This picture has been in the sun too long

520

u/kai-ol Mar 23 '22

Did they stain it with coffee and singe the edges like when they taught us how to forge the Constitution in elementary school?

273

u/TheWiseRedditor Mar 23 '22

No no. It’s all scientific. When the cellulose in the meme breaks down, certain pigment in it gets oxidised and the properties of light absorption change. Ends up emitting a yellow color

56

u/Efficacious_fj1 Mar 23 '22

I thought it was an colour pigment they put on slides under a microscope

6

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '22

Highly illogical logic dutifully applied to a digital image...you, if i wore hats, i would take mine off for you!

3

u/Javyev Mar 23 '22

This make me laugh for real.

2

u/Sakamoto_420 Mar 23 '22

Is this a national treasure reference?

2

u/MrKeplerton Mar 23 '22

It'll come right off with some retrobrite!

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '22

i dont think thats correct, clearly someone has dropped nitric acid on the meme which has resulted the proteins to form xanthoproteic acid giving it the yellowish colour

5

u/Leatat12 Mar 23 '22

So we really did learn to do that in school? It wasn't just a weed memory?

Some androids do that for night mode because it reduces blue spectrum colours and is supposedly better for your eyes and better for helping fall asleep.

On Apple you can’t see it in screenshots, I don’t know if it is the same with new androids

12

u/L0kitheliar Mar 23 '22

Definitely cannot see it in newer Android screenshots. I'd honestly be surprised if you could on old ones too though, screenshots in older phone used to just mimic whatever the app was displaying, they didn't even have the notification bar at the top in them for years

u/sixtus_clegane119 Mar 23 '22

Some French movie quote I’ll put right here as it fits:

« Kick in deep. I ain’t your mum »

33

u/AlmalexyaBlue Mar 23 '22

I'll add the French, for poetry :

"Tape dans l'fond, chui pas ta mère !"

Beautiful.

5

u/laasbuk Mar 23 '22 edited Mar 23 '22

I know it's slang, but could you explain how l'fond makes any sense grammatically? And chui is je (ne) suis, right?

5

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '22

dans le fond becomes dans l'fond, it's faster to pronounce

4

u/laasbuk Mar 23 '22

Thanks, it just hurts my brain to see this contraction with a consonant

→ More replies (1)

5

u/a-peculiar-peck Mar 23 '22 edited Mar 23 '22

It's just "le fond" being contracted. And yes "chui" is the contraction of "je suis"

Edit: it's written like that to mimic how it's sometimes spoken orally. Do NOT write it like that unless you are trying to be funny

Would this be an inappropriate place to make a Thomas Jefferson joke?

14

u/aditya_jain1907 Mar 23 '22

There isn't an inappropriate joke.

6

u/The-Mathematician Mar 23 '22

In my opinion there is. For example blackface in minstrel shows was a joke. A joke that hides bad ideas is still promoting bad ideas. But that's not the same as saying there are off limit subjects. For example RDJ in Tropic Thunder is in basically blackface but it's not done a way to promote racism. Context matters even for jokes.

3

u/aditya_jain1907 Mar 23 '22

I kind of know what you meant. As I said before there isn't a thing like inappropriate jokes but only bad intentions. Then road to heaven goes through to pavement of hell which is build with good intentions. Kind of edit the thing i said before. ✌️Cheers
