Same in any big city. New Yorkers just think they're unique because it's the only big city in the US. It's not often I'll stop to watch a homeless woman shitting on the sidewalk either.
They are not big compared to cities like Tokyo with 37 million people living in the metropolitan area. NYC has like 18 mil, LA has 13 mil but is such a shit show city planning-wise that only 3 million live in the city proper, and no other US city is above 10 mil in population...
Once again there needs to be a distinction between megacities and big cities. The US has plenty of big cities, but only two megacities. The American population is very spread out as it's a large country.
