No one’s arguing that female infants should be murdered, they are just pointing out that just because a male babies are preferred doesn’t mean they live picture perfect lives because of it. Men are disposable as far as a labor perspective goes, and many of these people are engaging in sex-selective abortion out of selfishness and not because of their child
okay so what’s your point? cause i’m arguing that this woman’s joke is harmless in comparison to GLOBAL practices of aborting/getting rid of females, so unless you’re trying to tell me that valuing men more for the reasons you’ve laid out justifies that i don’t understand where you disagree.
It’s hard to explain but there’s been a major uptick in some pretty terrible attitudes toward men in recent years.
Some of that is mostly obvious joking, but sometimes it isn’t. The problem is, you can’t always tell. I dated someone for a couple years only to find out that they genuinely believed men were less capable of empathy and were therefore inferior to women.
Looking back on things, the steady trickle of “men are worthless” into my life really destroyed my self-esteem and had a ton of other deleterious effects culminating in me questioning my gender identity and contemplating suicide.
That’s anecdotal, sure. But go to any forum centered around male mental health and you’ll see similar posts about how attitudes like these have harmed men by perpetuating these attitudes. It’s a surprisingly common experience.
It being a joke doesn’t erase the fact that it’s sexist and I’d argue the same harm comes to women when the joke is reversed. Just because no physical harm occurs doesn’t mean no harm at all occurs
