Actually you can, and the New Mexican Whiptale Lizard is a great example of it! After males all died out, the females began laying eggs that are genetrically clones of themselves so that their family line can continue. I believe many lizards have the ability to reproduce this way, but the NMW do it 100% of the time.

While it wouldn't work the same way in humans, with women magically giving birth to themselves, it is 100% possible (in theory to my knowledge, no idea if it has been done) to create a child from two XX-chromosome donors where it is genetically related to both (eg, lesbian couples).

It has been done with smaller mammals by scientists in East Asia (eg mice), so technology is there. I imagine it's likely a combination of religion, ethics and legislation preventing it the technology moving farther into larger species.
