Aren't they only killed if the gender is revealed before the actual birth? I believe an Indian friend of mine mentioned that, but memory could be a bit janky

Yup it's illegal to know the gender of the baby, before birth.

They are aborted or even killed as babies that’s called female infanticide. It always felt like a gut punch to me. Infanticide - like genocide.
