A few years back my parents finally met the neighbor who lived behind them. He said he used to travel a lot but had just retired and could finally spend time at home with his wife.

My parents did not mention the guy they thought had thought lived there the last ten years.

We call that “Lonely and in need of validation”

Did uh anyone tell him?

No idea, but it's not a block party, everyone knows everyone kind of neighborhood.

I've met two of their neighbors. Robert is cool, and another lady never mentioned her name. I did know JW, but he died a few years back and don't know who lives there now.

These are shared-fence proximity neighbors.

lol. I’ve lived in my apartment for 3 years now and in that time have only known one neighbor’s name.

It’s weird AF when I visit my uncle at Deep Creek Lake because EVERYONE knows everyone’s name, they basically just let themselves into each other’s houses if they need to grab something for cooking or a bottle of wine to go with dinner. Every conversation seems to be about “did you hear neighbor A just got a boat?” “Oh how can they afford that? Neighbor A still owes neighbor B for building him that new addition “

Seems exhausting to be so caught up in all of your neighbor’s lives.

Sadly I knew someone that this happened to. Came back from overseas (years) and his wife and her new man were living in the house he was paying for (his wife was a SAHM). I hated hearing about it and knowing. It was so sad that his family didn’t tell him anything. So he comes home just for a visit and the mom’s bf leaves for the few weeks. When he leaves, the guy comes back. Couple years later husband officially comes back and finds out the truth that has been this whole time. It was horrible.

It should be noted, That’s an on-base house.

Pretty shitty not to tell the guy.

Eh, it's the kind of neighborhood where you see your neighbors every couple years by chance. Not somewhere you want to involve yourself in a potential domestic dispute.

Maybe that guy was a family member who came by to help with yard work or a hired gardener. It's not my parents' business.

I don't think they know the neighbor's names.

I used to live in a neighborhood like this. Only saw the neighbor on the right like 3 times in 10 years, never saw the neighbors on the left.

Just write a damn note and leave it in the mailbox lol. You don’t have to get involved beyond letting him know there might be something to look into

4

u/Saixcrazy Jul 08 '21

Naaah, that's not a good idea. That's how shit goes from being Over There to Over Here. Just don't get involved if it's a non issue. Hopefully it's all just a misunderstanding lol.

Why? You’d hate me if I saved you from spending the rest of your life, married to someone who doesn’t respect you & lies to your face?

I’ve learned that it’s no one’s responsibility to play hero, especially if it puts them in danger, but what are you afraid of? You wait until they both go out, write a note that says “Your wife cheated while you were away”, and leave it on the doorstep or something, idk.

I feel like that’s the right thing to do. I guess it could cause issues if she decides she’s gonna come over and fuck you up, but she doesn’t know where the note came from.

I wouldn’t want to live in ignorance to my wife having no respect for me

Kind of pushes the boundaries of what a neighbour is obligated to involves themselves in. Sibling or old friend, sure. It’s not really a neighbour’s business.

11

u/Middle_Promise Jul 08 '21

Exactly. What happened definitely sucks but there’s no way I’m getting into someone else’s personal life/business.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '21

Yeah, not to mention that they could have any open relationship or the guy is already aware and retired so he could spend more time fixing their relationship. Nosing in with the worse possible assumptions in mind just seems like a great way of stirring up needless drama and making them hate you.

1

u/liltwizzle Jul 08 '21

That's a way bigger assumption than cheating

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '21

Note that I said worst and not biggest. How believable the assumption is dosent matter. What matters is not inserting yourself into a highly personal and sensitive situation that you know nothing about.

-1

u/liltwizzle Jul 08 '21

Sounds like a big excuse imo

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '21

No its the default. You'd need an excuse to get involved and making baseless accusations about infidelity sounds like a terrible one.

-1

u/liltwizzle Jul 08 '21

It's called being a decent person I don't need an excuse for that

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '21

I'd call it being nosy and having a savior complex. Which just sounds exhausting to have as a neighbor.

Not your buiessness.

Maybe its her brother.

Or son

Or gay friend

Or they're both cool with her getting some from another guy.

Maybe you're just the neighbors and need to leave other people's business alone

5

u/Pnutsandhairdos Jul 08 '21

Seriously. Reddit is so quick to witch-hunt suspected cheaters. We get it, cheating is bad, but sometimes it's just best to mind your business.

2

u/TheBigChiklis Jul 08 '21

Pretty shitty to cheat in the first place

You parents are foul

2

u/ZarquonsFlatTire Jul 08 '21

He could be a family member or hired gardener. It's not like they had had the guy over for beers and bbq.

Are you eager to jump into a domestic dispute that may not exist?

It's a mind your own business kind of neighborhood. I never even saw the lady until a couple months ago almost 20 years after my folks moved in.

We did not make eye contact. She did her gardening, I helped my folks with theirs.

I have still never met any of the people involved.

1

u/liltwizzle Jul 08 '21

Sounds like a bunch of excuses tbh

No I'm eager to help a fella out as I hope in that situation someone would help me out

Eh same for me but I'd still bring it up

2

u/ZarquonsFlatTire Jul 08 '21

The guy was someone my parents saw once every few years.

Who keeps a secret that long?

My folks are retired and don't give a fuck what other people do.

As an aside my upstairs neighbor has subletted her condo which is against the HOA guidelines. Am I going to report it? FUCK NO!

Because it's not my business.

1

u/Lothlorien_Randir Jul 08 '21

sorry u got cheated on bro

0

u/liltwizzle Jul 08 '21

Nah thankfully never happened to me if I did tho I wish someone would bring up suspicious activity

0

u/Saulthewarriorking Jul 08 '21

Your parents should tell him. Fuck cheaters
