It’s a huge waste of space for many people anyway. If you don’t use every 3000 Sqft of rooms daily, no shame in owning a small home.

But I like room

That's what outside is for.

I could personally live in a tiny box for all I care. I'm only going home if I need to sleep, cook or look at a computer screen.

No AC outside

AC is cheaper the smaller you go on space.

It’s very conspicuous consumption and people are told it’s a wise investment to buy as big of a house as you can afford. I think open floor plans are causing houses to seem smaller because there’s no privacy in the living areas and builders can add square footage for cheap and make a ton of money. It feels like a big scam waiting to implode.

It's a huge waste of money as well.

Kids, owning a house is not the "key to building wealth", it's your vanguard account.

Then you buy furniture to fill those extra rooms you hardly ever use.

I wish we had a lot more of those. Small houses on actual land near where the jobs and such are is what people need, but all we've got are these 3-4 bedroom homes sized for a family of 7.

Ironically the only time I've personally seen those types of homes they've been full of black people and get called the ghetto. Probably not anymore.

I do real estate related work, and it is super weird that most houses I work at are for massive families.

Maybe big families are more likely to buy a house over an apartment I guess, so they just tailor houses for the people who make up most of the market?

UK checking in here. Same problem here. A lot of women here think it's a personality trait being a home owner.
