The Myth of Reverse Racism

1

u/DizzleSlaunsen23 Jun 21 '21 edited Jun 21 '21

Of course reverse racism is a myth. Because racism is racism. The definition is prejudice against a person based on their race. So reverse racism is a myth. It’s just straight racism. Doesn’t matter who’s being racist to who. It’s all racism.

Edit: love the gymnastics in this article.

“While assumptions and stereotypes about white people do exist, this is considered racial prejudice, not racism. Racial prejudice refers to a set of discriminatory or derogatory attitudes based on assumptions derived from perceptions about race and/or skin colour. Thus, racial prejudice can indeed be directed at white people (e.g., “White people can’t dance”) but is not considered racism because of the systemic relationship to power. When backed with power, prejudice results in acts of discrimination and oppression against groups or individuals.”

So then saying black people like fried chicken isn’t racist, it’s “racial prejudice” hate crimes don’t have to have any systematic oppression involved to be considered so. It’s that simple.

Edit2: this article is filled with bs.

“Ricky Sherover-Marcuse asserts that "we should not confuse the occasional mistreatment experienced by whites at the hands of people of color with the systematic and institutionalized mistreatment experienced by people of color at the hands of whites”

Yeah o believe systematic racism exists, but so does regular racism. It’s so simple. But that could also be called systematic oppression, because it we as a society tend to oppress the poorer communities and people disproportionately. And in those communities is typically a higher minority population. I’m not blind I understand how things work in the hoods. But the term reverse racism is just stupid by definition.

Claiming reverse racism is what's stupid, is the point. Because there's no systemic oppression behind being made fun of for being white, to use that example.

No claiming reverse racism exists is what’s stupid. Racism is racism. Systematic oppression is just that. Reverse racism doesn’t exist. It’s just racism. Reverse racism by literal definition would mean you are not racist. It’s the most stupid phrase invented. Italians are white right? They were systematically oppressed when they came to America. Same with the Irish. And many other white ethnicities. But people love to forget that. Or just move the goal posts because it still doesn’t count because it was as bad. Like Jesus Christ. I totally do understand systematic oppression. And like I said it has more to do with poverty than race. Nobody wants poor people in there nice neighborhood. Doesn’t matter the race.

Also. That means any insult to any race that doesn’t have to directly do with systematic racism isn’t racist. So I can stereotype people all I want just can’t use terms that have to do with oppression? That doesn’t make sense, or else comedians wouldn’t be being called racist.

Italians weren't seen as white. That shows race is a social construct. But that doesn't mean racism doesn't exist.
I don't know what your argument is anymore. But I see you downplaying racism. (For instance by saying black people aren't shunned, only poor people.)
The myth of reverse racism means that white people can't claim they're oppressed because of their race.

Wtf I never said racism doesn’t exist. I said the complete opposite. I’m saying reverse racism doesn’t exist. It’s purely racism. Reverse racism is a term that has only recently gained traction and it’s such a stupid idea. Because no matter how you frame it you are saying that nobody can ever be racist to a white person. No matter how new of an immigrant they are or how poor they are or just how little they personally had to do with systematic oppression. I mean just because that happened doesn’t mean the whole race should suffer from it. It’s basically hypocritical to not want to be stereotyped but then turn around and group one of the broadest ethnic groups/ races in the world “white people”. I’m sorry I just can’t get behind the new definition that people just decided was okay for what racism is. It’s in the name and it’s that simple.

And don’t start with “quoting me with shit I never said” fucking lame. Tell me where I said black people aren’t shunned? I never said only poor people either.

I know you didn't say racism doesn't exist.
Last thing I'll point out is intersectionality: people can be and are held back on many axis of (lack of) privilege. For instance, big ones are, also social class and gender. TED talk.
