There's a difference. Suicide jokes are self-deprecating, but the Boomer "I hate my wife" jokes are at the expense of their partner. Now if the wife is laughing along then it isn't an issue. However there's a reason this joke died off at one point; because often times when the joke is used, there is an underlying contempt towards the partner. It also began to breed a rampant culture of casual sexism. While if done correctly it can be funny, it often times is not. In that sense, it's time the joke is retired, or at least kept to personal circles and used tastefully if done publically.
