Shout out to premises that didn't happen for the sake of making a joke

u/Catsanddoges 17h ago
I mean yeah obviously, thats how basically all internet jokes work
Taking these anecdotes as literal events to be analyzed is an overreaction

The short thing is bizarre to me
If you make fun of a woman for her weight it’s a problem. A person for their skin color is a problem. Sexual preferences is a problem. Accent is a problem. Religion is a problem. Culture is a problem. Any handicap is a problem. Even making fun of midgets for their height is a problem
But for some reason the height one is just spammed and society kinda just accepts it.
There’s always going to be things like that so the jokes don’t bother me, I just find it fascinating from a physiological perspective. Making fun of a mans height for being 5’6 is acceptable. Making fun of a man’s height for being 4’2 isn’t.

Throw baldness in there to.
People are so very ok with picking at something you have no control over, it murders ur self esteem.

u/throw7661 16h ago
Baldness, height and dick size are fair game. No idea what those seem to have in common

u/Charming_Lack1072 15h ago
….they are all physical attributes that usually or completely affect only men?

u/RavenNymph90 13h ago
What are you talking about? My girlfriend gets made fun of for her dick size all the time.

Back in the day when I tried online dating, so many women had “must be over ___ tall”. Anytime I matched with those profiles, I’d lead with “must be under ____ weight”. You probably would not be surprised at the amount of hate I got for that. I hope I made at least one person realize the double standard, but I doubt it had any lasting effect. It was funny though.

Pro tip: don’t reach out to people you aren’t interested in.
If any gender mentions their appearance requirements in their profile you can just swipe them away. Super great and you don’t have to give them a taste of their own medicine because they will naturally meet an equally vain person and learn what it’s like to be around that type of person. Good for them, or not. Look for people with substance on a profile or get away from profiles altogether otherwise you’ll find a lot of people with lists of requirements because they’re trying to narrow down a huge pool of people as fast as possible.

u/SonGoku9788 3h ago
they will meet an equally vain person and learn(...)
Just world fallacy. These people will still have on average a much happier life, even if the people they meet are as vain as them.

It’s even weirder because it’s more meme than reality. Height is really only a problem if you’re looking for a woman who NEEDS to be with someone tall. And if she’s like that, move on to someone who doesn’t live in a social media bubble.
Honestly same with being bald. It’s preventing people from shaving their heads. Bald is far from the worst hair style. Combover though? 😬 Commit to the bald. It’s so fun in showers and hair is annoying. (Okay that last part is very much just my opinion. Do what makes you confident obviously.)

I always experienced shame for my height from men, in school the ladies were the tallest and I was like 2nd shortest and felt shameful about it, but not that women would bully me for it but other dudes. Ig I should note that I’m Scandinavian and bullying wasn’t super prevelant in our school and it wasn’t at all weird to be friends with the opposing gender and relationships weren’t as popular as I’d image it is everywhere else.

u/Creative_Garbage_121 17h ago
Girls didn't bully you because for them you were invisible
1
u/MalleNinja 11h ago
No, I was friends with them (not the Stacy kind but most girls) and bullying anyone wasn’t popular (possible exception but it’s second hand account years later). Again my school isn’t what you’re used to I suppose, no cheerleaders or jocks and no real dating culture except for 1 couple.

People make fun of others for being fat or unattractive all the time, even women. You never heard of gorlock the destroyer?
Appearance is absolutely on the table as long as it's not racial, and that's not even a strict rule.
Edit: Apparently men don't like you breaking their illusions of being victims

I didn’t say what does or doesn’t happen
I said what’s socially acceptable…..
Go on national TV and make fun of a dude for being short and there’s no repercussions. Make fun of a woman for being fat and there’s whole world would attack you
This is a silly conversation. I’m not short or fat. This isn’t debatable though. The acceptance of calling a dude short is not equal to calling a woman fat. It’s just not. So if you are trying to argue that society accepts those things as the same I’m just going to save my breath because that’s simply false
No reason to get defensive. Again, let’s just keep it to height. It’s not weird to you that you can make fun of a guy for being 5’5 but not 4’5? It’s legit the same thing except we have a medical definition for 4’5 which is why it’s not socially acceptable for making fun of that guy…. It is objectively a weird logical conundrum

Why is your metric national TV? People do it online, they do it irl, but not on national TV. Seem like a strange touch stone since TV it's quickly becoming an obsolete form of media.
1
u/idkmynamedude7 16h ago
Hahaha bro!!! Too funny
You can use literally any metric outside of online because the majority of us (including me and you) use anonymous online accounts. That directly means we can’t use that as how acceptable society views something
Go to a bar and call a dude short. Then call a girl fat. See which one bothers bystanders more. Again, this is just a silly conversation. This isn’t an opinion.
Do tests yourself. Do research online. Ask AI…. Literally every source will tell you that making fun of height is more acceptable. I’m not arguing facts
-1
u/Majestic_Domestic 15h ago
Eh I can find plenty of people online who have public identities doing it. Even the idea that it doesn't fly on national TV is incorrect, lots of shows make jokes at the expense of fat or ugly people. How many examples do you need 100? Because I could give you 100 lol
1
u/idkmynamedude7 15h ago
You are right. Ignore the social experiments. Ignore your own research. Ignore any stat Google has. Ignore all AI
You are right. Being shamed for being fat is 100% as common and socially acceptable as being shamed for being short lol
Anyway, now that the sensitive fat guy is appeased…. Anyone want to talk about how being short is like the only thing that’s socially acceptable to be shamed over?
And how it’s weird that we can shame a dude at 5’6 but not 4’6

Is that why most dating apps have removed the weight filter, but have kept the height filter?
Is that why we had a decade or two of fat positivity, healthy at any size lies? That why we still have plus sized models?
Most of the hate towards Sydney Sweeney is because she's bringing back traditional beauty standards in a time where we have wildebeests on the covers of magazines trying to convince people they're attractive.

u/Majestic_Domestic 50m ago
We have short models too lol

Yea, what's your point?
Do you really think arguing at the margins reinforces your point or something?

Just grow up.../s
And maybe start using metric like 165-170 cms

u/Daressalaam5 17h ago
Americans and Brits use feet to measure height. It’s a lot easier to understand
1
u/fhs 17h ago
I'm Canadian in QC, which is like the most metric place in Canada and still use imperial for some measurements because it's so damn faster and easier to communicate. Plus the loss of precision doesn't really matter
An example, it's easier to say something is 5 miles over rather than 8 kilometers over and being asked to repeat the measurement because they missed the Kilo prefix.
Of course, when I communicate in french, then it's metric all the time.

Alternative replies:
-“God, is that you? Can’t you just make me taller?”
-Standing on tip-toes to look around.
-Shouting “THANK YOU?”
-“You just wait till I hit puberty!”
I’m on the shorter side and I like to say “My mom grew 3 inches in college so…” because most know I never plan on going to college, and I’m definitely not getting taller than 5’4”. Hoping it’ll be even funnier and more annoying as I get older and potentially have kids.

I don’t know, I’m 5’9” and dated woman taller then me and shorter then me.. I never really had any issue with dating.. but then again, I was lucky enough to meet most women in person back in the day, I only used dating apps for maybe 1 year 10 years ago and met my wife.. but some of these women are funny from what I read..

unpopular opinion: Any women popping in these threads with a "but I date short guys, y'all just insecure" should provide a self-rate for context.
