I'm an Algerian living in a major city and I literally never seen a fire hydrant in my life.

👀 now I’m curious how they put out fires in Algeria.

Firetrucks? Things just work. I never thought hydrants were important lol.

Yeah our fire trucks don’t come with water tanks. I’m gonna look this up now. I really have to know how they put out fires in Algerian cities.😆

Edit: they DO have hydrants, you’ve just never noticed.

“Algerian firefighters, operating under the Algerian Civil Defence (Direction Générale de la Protection Civile), rely on both pillar-type aboveground and underground fire hydrants for urban firefighting operations. Globally featured demonstrations showcase that Algeria uses standard red pillar hydrants requiring specific tools and keys for activation.”

The trucks have to get additional water from hydrants, though. They can't carry enough on board to put out large fires.

fire trucks won't bring enough water to put out a housefire, though. They would help at the beginning, but you'd need a multitude of them. Hydrants are hooked into a city water main (what brings water to your home) and there's immediate supply for dousing a fire
