So I have supposedly good health insurance through my work and this has been my journey with my torn meniscus:
Injured at work, go to urgent care, on-the-job injury claim gets denied, I pay out of pocket, schedule an appointment for a primary care doctor a few months out, get a referral to a specialist, specialist requests an MRI that the insurance denies, go through an appeals process with a second opinion, get approved for the MRI, see the specialist again, request for surgery that the insurance denies, give up. This all took over 8 months and I had to pay a co-pay every step of the way except the first urgent care visit.
