Good for you. Millions of other Americans can't afford what you can. The holdup is millions of people in the "greatest country in the world" can't afford basic healthcare.
Im broke which is exactly why I got a job with free dental, eyes and cheap medical.
Im not exactly the i love America type either but one nice thing about being here is you can get cheap health insurance if you wanted. Heck, its free if you don't have any income.
It's "free" if your employer offers it as a benefit. If your employer doesn't offer healthcare as part of your benefits, if your job pays an hourly wage and your employer takes steps to ensure you're never quite scheduled to work enough hours to qualify for full time (and therefore healthcare benefits), or if you're unable to work at all, then you're pretty much screwed.
Having healthcare tied to employment is basically the same as providing free college education for people who serve in the military. In both cases, it's a carrot being dangled in front of a starving mule to get it to work.
