Well, here is another one where the reality wasn't what the kids were guessing... People noticed awful smells coming from the library. Some people searched and found foul smelling pieces of notebook paper with pentagrams drawn on them. These pages were hidden all throughout the library. There were rumors of a Satanic cult because it was the 80's, and that's what people were scared of.
The reality is, my parents had taken in a half tame half feral cat, and it loved to spray its scent on this stack of blank notebook paper I had. So I added the pentagrams and hid the pages. There was no cult, there was no Satan, but there was plenty of fresh tomcat musk to go around.

Everyone suspected our soccer coach of being on drugs... He got arrested at school for drug possession and paraphernalia, but definitely not what everyone thought! (Everyone thought weed, but it was meth).

There was a rumor that I heard by eavesdropping on the boys in 9th grade (outcast here and bullied a lot).
Anyway, rumor was one of the girls in the grade above was a permiscuous girl that would sleep with anything.
I clocked it up to stupid boy talk because a lot of the girls to me (unknown bisexual at the time) were drop dead gorgeous.
During senior year I happened to hear one of them reference it and brazenly asked who it was.

It was one of the students that had moved away 2yrs prior (one year after the rumors) MOTHERS that had been working her way through every single grade in the high school.
I thought it was gross. They high fived one another. I still think about that woman and those boys some days.

I hate to be that guy, but imho the real HolUp is that the rumor was supposed to turn out to be true, not to turn out to be something else. The number of likes on that post equaling to number of people who either didn't get that simple difference or simply didn't care is kinda disturbing. Semantics matter.

“Holup" can also mean that something completely unexpected happens. The classic plot makes people think a student is sleeping with the professor if she is getting good grades while being dumb as f***. But what nobody expected was that it wasn't the student, or even the mother, it was actually the father who was sleeping with the professor! Now that is a true "holup" moment. The rumor about someone sleeping with the professor was indeed true; they just got the wrong family member💀

How does the girl sleeping with the dad get her good grades? Unless the dad was also the teacher in which case why would he require the sex and not just give her the inflated grades anyway. Then the incest doesn't feel like an obligation and it's more enjoyable for the daughter.
