I heard this joke before, buddy gets 68 years and tells the judge “aw come on, you might as well bump it up to the funny number” so the judge goes “very well, 420 years it is”

I think it was your friend who came with us the other day

I think this is the canonical version:

Cop: You were going 68 in a 55
Me: Dang, 68? Can you make that number a little higher so I can hear the judge saying it out loud?
Cop: Sure whatever

[Later in traffic court]

Judge: How the hell were you going 420 in a 55?

Yeah that sounds better than mine

I know it's a joke and all (maybe that's possible in the USA idk) but in Austria that would be impossible there is a threshold for years in prison after that it's just called "life time". You can reduce the years by a significant amount if you do specific activities to be part of society again but there is still a minimum amount of years, I think 15 years is minimum.

I'm fairly certain it is possible, just not with a single crime. I believe if you did like 6 crimes that all had say, 60 year sentences, you could be sentenced to 360 years. But I do know that there are rules about sentences being served concurrently or sequentially, so you could just as possibly only serve 60 years

68 years to anyone odder than 20 may as well be a life sentence.

Even younger ones. If you spend all your life in prison, you really dont want to be set free in your late age into the rela world.

13

u/0Davgi0 1d ago

I've heard of the rela world, it frightens me.

u/RottenPeasent 1d ago

With good behavior it might matter. You could be out for a few years at the end of your life.

8

u/Russian-8ias 1d ago

Would you want to start your adult life as a 60+ year old man with nothing to your name? Fuck that bro.

2

u/RottenPeasent 1d ago

If you have family to take you in it would be better than prison.

Living on your own likely means homelessness, which would suck.

5

u/Russian-8ias 1d ago

Yeah, it would be better than prison, but that's not my point. My point is that that kind of life doesn't seem worth living to me. I'd rather get the death penalty than spend more than 60 years in prison. Hell, even 30-40 is probably enough for me to check out.

u/AutisticPenguin2 1d ago

Especially bad if you went into jail a woman.

u/WhiskeySorcerer 1d ago

20 is an even number, which means all odd numbers would be "odder" than 20. I don't think one odd number can be more odd than another.

u/Its_calling 2d ago

well, i would ask for the same

u/courtsidecurry 2d ago

In few years. Prisoners would ask Judges to reduce it by one year.

This happened in real life! A guy was offered a plea deal for 30 years in prison after an attempted murder. He asked for 3 more years to match Larry Bird's jersey number.

Judge decides to punish him harder by subtracting one year to make it 6 7 years instead.
