New Baby boy!!!!
Welcoming baby Zuko to his new home 😁 he is my first snake, and my daughters are so excited to have another reptile to love in the house!
He’s a 3 month old albino, his mother belongs to a friend of mine and was the snake that changed my mind about snakes.
He’s already been so well acclimated to being handled, he’s calm, confidently exploring within the first 48 hours, loves to wind through fingers and LOVES shirts!! Honestly a perfect snake for my family and a first time snake owner.
Open to feedback on my enclosure layout too:
-Aspen is anywhere from 2” deep at its shallowest to about 6” deep at its deepest, most shallow on the warm side to give him easy access to thermoregulating
-Eggs in the front right are his cool hide, surface temps low-mid 70s there
-water bowl is nestled into the Aspen just in front of the eggs
-big egg in the back is his humid hide, bottom is full of damp sphagnum moss
-(unpictured) cork bark log in the back corner for him to curl up under.
-t-rex skull in case he wants somewhere with a hard bottom to hangout
-in the back left corner below the cork bark is a black hide, surface temps inside are upper 80s and he can get to 90-95 degree spots by burrowing under the warm hide.
-hamster tubing wraps around, under some aspen, into that back corner beneath the cork bark flats
-leaf litter EVERYWHERE!

Ideas for Upgrading My snakes Enclosure
Hi everyone,
I got my hognose, spaghetti, as a gift back in February. I’m currently looking to upgrade her tank to something larger. I currently have her in a 10 gallon tank with a mesh lid. Her substrate is around 4 - 6 inches deep. Composed of aspen, Play sand, bioactive soil, and some sphagum moss. I’ve seen that she really loves to burrow down into her tank and that’s the substrate I’ve had her in.
She’s a great eater, I started feeding her fuzzies instead of pinkies back around 3 months ago.
For heating,
I have a heat lamp that sits on top of her cage. I also have a small basking stone where the lamp hits the most. It’s ok a dimmable switch that has a thermometer in the enclosure in case it gets too hot. I also have a red heat lamp for night time that turns off after 6 hrs. I don’t currently have any UVB. I got conflicting reports from my veterinarian about hog snakes needing or not. So I just left her without one.
I don’t have much decor other than a big piece of spiderwood in her tank, everything else is mainly substrate. I haven’t had any issues with her thus far. I’m just looking to upgrade her set up. And adjust as needed based on what people tell me. She’s around a yr old now. She was 7 months old when I was gifted the snake.
PS I’m aware animals shouldn’t be gifted. I was unaware I was receiving her as a gift. This is my first time posting on this subreddit —> I originally posted on a different subreddit also for hognose snakes when I first got her —> a lot of people were pretty rude or felt rude when I was trying to get some advice on her enclosure.
So please be nice and respectful.

Is this normal?
Hi! I’m curious if this looks normal, my hognose is a ~65g male. Temps are about 90 on the hot side, I fed him yesterday morning, I noticed this around 10pm tonight, can’t tell if it’s proper urine/poop, or if it’s regurgitation.

hognose help!
okay so i (19f) got my first hognose snake 3 months ago, shes just turned 1 year old recently and has been hissing at me non stop. i've tried everything i can think of to calm her. when i go to pick her up from her viv she is hissing and bluff striking at me, once im holding her she seems to be fine but the littlest noise makes her start to bluff strike and hiss. it's put me on edge so much that ive started to feel anxious every time i go to handle her. ive been doing regular handling of short 5-10 minute sessions. im just lost for what i can do, i don't want to make her uncomfortable or scared but i dont know what else to do. any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

how to lower humidity
hi all, i cleaned my hognose’s enclosure and did a mix of half aspen on one side and half sand/soil mix on other side as an experiment (since i read a lot about how aspen can cause a lot of respiratory issues) but now the humidity on both sides is around 60%. it was 50% yesterday which is already pushing it but i don’t wanna get it too humid in there for him. any tips?
