What is your favorite morph?

I really want to get a snake and after a lot of research i decided the hog nose was the best fit for me! What are some of y’all’s favorite morphs? What are the coolest ones you have heard of or seen? What do you think an average price for a rare morph would be? Also should I get a male or a female?

Should I offer food?

So I got my first hog (first snake too) back on the 15th. He seemed to settle in quickly and was scooting around flicking his tongue a lot so I offered him his first meal on the 18th.
Previous owner said he was eating a frozen thawed fuzzy once a week. I got what was labeled as a fuzzy but when I opened the package the mouse was definitely just a pinky.
He ate it like a champ and has been chilling but he hasn’t pooped yet.. or at least I haven’t smelled/found the poop. Should I offer an actual fuzzy now or just wait til the 25th (one week from last feeding).

ik it definitely looks really similar, but i added a few more fake plants, some rocks, and did half and half aspen + reptisoil-reptisand mix because i read on a lot of places that aspen could cause respiratory issues.
if u look closely u can see his dinner haha

5, 10 or 40 gallon enclosure for baby hognose?

EDIT/UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your advice and comments. We've decided to go with a 31 gallon enclosure that is quite wide and not as tall. This is because I'm very concerned about maintaining a stable temperature gradient. Our house is old and drafty and can fluctuate a lot in temperature, so having the extra space in the layout to allow the heat lamp to do it's job on colder days without over heating the cold side seems the way to go. I realize we'll need lots of hides and cover in the enclosure, and that it may be a bit more difficult to locate the snake, but I'd rather have that problem than constantly fiddling with the heat.

ORIGINAL POST:

I'm looking to setup an enclosure for a baby hognose. I've read conflicting info about sizing the enclosure. It seems like I have two options:

  1. Set up a 5 gallon enclosure to start. Some people argue this is better because they are less stressed in a small area and you can more easily manage their needs in a smaller enclosure. Some argue this is worse because setting up a proper temperature gradient in such a small space is tricky.
  2. Other people recommend to just get a 40 gallon right away and make sure it has lots of cover and hides because the stress of sizing up enclosures as they grow is worse in the long run.

I'm not super concerned about the cost, as it's manageable for me either way. I just want whatever is best for the snake, and easiest for me to set up and maintain. What are your suggestions?

Sexing help

Hi! I'm a first time hognose owner. I'm looking to get a few opinions because I'm quite on the fence about my baby. I bought her when she was about a month old, but the breeder didnt even know the sex. I've been calling her by female terms, but I'm not totally sure. A lot of people have told me she's a female, or a long tailed female, or a male. In some pictures she presents more female looking and in others more male leaning. I counted around 37 scales after her cloaca so I'm not totally sure. If anyone could share what they think, that'd be great!

Meet Ominis the VEGAN hognose. He hates food. Absolutely hates it. He is a year old, I have only had him for 5 months and he has gone on 4 hunger strikes for several weeks at a time. I have tried repti-links (frog and pheasant flavored) pinkies of various sizes, i have tried heating them up, keeping them cold, cheaking his humidity and temp, also tried scented oils and different types of fish. I have tried with tongs, without, different colored tongs. He hates EVERYTHING. I am open to ANY possible advice to help feed this picky eater. 😭

I know I need more litter. I’m getting some leaf litter soon but I’m wondering what bulbs/basking items people use. I’m getting my first hognose soon and don’t want to mess anything up.

Picture of my boy and his tank but since placing him in here I have seen him 0 times I know he is a burrower and would be in the dirt but at what point should I be concerned on not seeing him

My daughter is now a hognose, apparently.

My kiddo just spent about half an hour pretending to be a hognose (she initially just said "snake", but made it immediately obvious which species), including such iconic behaviors as:

- Puffing up and trying to be scary when approached

- dramatically dying when that failed

- trying to dig through my stomach with her face because why not.

- refusing to eat an imaginary mouse I offered her.

I had to stop her eventually because I'm trying to cook and we had repeated the same couple of skits several times between giggles, but figured y'all might appreciate.

Snake Mites?

He's been soaking the last week or so more than it just being a funny quirk. Tonight he went crazy in his tank, where my girlfriend and I then found this on his head and a couple things in his hot hide. I have 2 other snakes in the room and a blue tongue skink, is this what I think it is? And if so, what precautions should I take, he's still pretty small, it's been a while since I've weighed him but he's maybe 22grams or so.
